View Full Version : welding clutch fork?

Hi
As I have my gearbox out I have been told that often a clutch fork will bend or snap.

1. is this true
2. is it worth re-enforcing it with something?

Just throw it and get a new one.Do you want to remove the box a second time to save $82!!!! Pat

maye I should have said there is nothing wrong with it.

I just thought seeing as it's out could it be made a bit stronger so it doesn't snap.

I don't really want to pull the box out again.

Depends what type of clutch fork it is.

The later pressed steel forks, usually fail in the area around the ball seat. I welded a thick washer on the opposite side, to thicken the area where they fail.

There have been some threads on this in the last month or two.

If its fora LT95 4spd i wouldent bother with the fork id beef up the bellhousing where the piviot post for the fork is fitted into the casting of the housing as ive now broken another in just over 2years first one went the same way the area around were the hole for the post is isnt strong enough and breaks away i now have to remove the engin once again and this time im replacing the housing with the first one that had broken which is now beefed up in the right spot so it dont happen again i hope :D:D:D:D:D:D

I dont suppose you took a pic of what you done?
how can u beef up the housing when it's cast alli?

I havent fotoed it no but i can as i havent put it in yet as for beefing up the alli i have a mig and i have no dramas welding the alli here at home :D:D:D:D:D

LT95, LT77 or R380 ?

LT95, so from that article it seems it's not really worth it as if one part fails most likely there will be other bits buggered anyway.
