Just wondering if DVD burners had 2 lasers. Having a bit of a problem with my LG one trying to burn DVDs. All of a sudden it throws a spasm and it will start the burn process but keep on spinning and making a hell of a racket. I can't stop it unless I hit the reset button on the PC.
I'll read the DVD ok , but burning it won't.
YET IT WILL burn a CD ok.
So I wonder if there are 2 different types of laser in them, one for DVD and one for CD?
I does it on Linux and on Windows with various burning software.

My understanding is that the power to the laser diode is increased for burning. I don't believe there is a difference in the intensity between CD and DVD reading. Do a search on Google and you should turn up something.

I have heard of DVD and CD burners fail the burn process but still read OK. Given a new one is only about $60 it's probably easier to just replace it.
