wash just washing the roof and noticed one of the spotwelds in the panel behind the windscreen top is broken and letting water into the roof lining.:mad:BS on a 3 year old car!:mad:So what would be the best repair besides silastic? Would LRs 6 year corrossion warranty cover this??Or should I just bang a pop rivet in it ?

I think LR's corrosion warranty only covers perforation due to corrosion - but it is worth presenting it to them for comment anyway. I did sucessfully get them to repair some surface rust in my footwell which is technically outside the wording of their warranty.

Mines been repaired by LR once... Broke soon after and they wouldnt repair it again.

A decent crash shop could reweld it.

I just shoved some sikaflex in there in the meantime.

Roof rack???

If you have one, you will find the spots break alot quicker....
You might also find LR wont fix it as your load on the roof exceeeds the Factory recommendation......

Catch 22, they fit it, but wont cover the damage it causes.....

My old Defender was 12yo when i got it and no busted spot welds or rivets, in 1 year of me putting the roof rack on the 2 front spots had popped and rivers in the rear were breaking.....

yeh, I have a Safety Devices Rack which is quite heavy, break out the sikaflex.:mad:

Sadly the Weight does not help a defender's Roof

sclarke is right, the average roof rack puts too much load on the roof corner. In S Africa it is rare to see a defender without this problem as they are usually well overloaded (200 plus kg). If I remember correctly there are also a couple of bolts that screw into the aluminium corner casting that can come loose. BTW, there is a case for having 'floppy' roofrack legs instead of rigid, to reduce the lateral loads on the roof.
