View Full Version : Where Am I (fun with Google Earth)

CowsGoMoo

Basically this first photo is from Google Earth and is zoomed in. All you have to do to win is be the first to pick the location / thing that is in the picture. I'll keep adding a picture each day zooming out with each one till someone picks it.

And the big prize is.... You get to pick the next location / thing .

So here goes...

Go here for Google Earth-

How close can I get to home, it zooms in but the clarity is gone? I sthat as far as I can go for the region?? as you can tell I've only just downloaded the program and not all that computer savvy:(

Most of Australia is low resolution so I am guessing this one is close to a built up area.

This might help, http://www.aulro.com/afvb/showthread.php't=35594&highlight=pictures

You will have to save the image from Google Earth to your hard drive first. Just use a generic name for the pic, like pic1 etc.

Just remember to edit out the longitude & latitude on the bottom of the Google Earth image. Any photo editing program should do.

Then you cut and paste the picture to the post message.

Hope this helps.

or just turn of the lat/long bar before saving the image !

or just turn of the lat/long bar before saving the image !

So now the secrets are starting to appear :D.

Thanks for the tip.

We just need to work out where the last location is.

Maybe the moose farm?

Blimey, No Lat/Long, Moose's location "lost in space"

So now I'm gonna do a fly around Oz at 542m trying to pattern match. NOT :p

This has turned into a competition like a radio station "secret sound" After 6 million guesses someone will get it right.

Hmm Telstra must do alright out of them eh

I went there about 15yrs ago, great spot.

Here's one I hope will be a little harder.

This is a hard one. My son-in-law reckons it is a dirt bike track from what he can see, any suggestions/hints to where it is?

Barry's son is right about it being a track, but not a dirt bike track.
Pedro the swift may be best situated for this one.

That would be north north east of Maryborough.

Nice one. I recognised the sandy soil and the colour of the water but gave up after several sessions cruising around the Caboolture to Gympie area.

Lucky for me Pedro has his location in his profile so I cruised around there till I spotted it.

What's next?

Nice and quick on this one.

Any idea what the circles are from?

GregTD5
22nd September 2007, 09:31 AM
Barry,
The circles are from crops, mostly for cattle feed for the dairy in the bottom of the pic, from memory. The crops are irrigated by centre pivot sprinklers, with the Adelaide to Darwin railway line cutting through the middle.
As the pic was taken well into the dry there is a good contrast with colours
During the flood in 1998 all this area was under water for most of the dry season.

Thanks for the info Greg. I was raised on a dairy farm so round paddocks are new to me.

My Dad always told me to get in the corner out of the way but I would have no hope up there :D.

Now to figure out the current pic, I have no idea.

Please explain, there is a town called 1770 but it's not in Nth Qld.

I'll give a clue.
Its in the Kimberley, with no vehicle access.

Just did a fly around between Broome and Darwin (I know Darwin is not the Kimberly) including Islands.

Rough looking country but I could not find the town.

Anyone know the relevance of 1776. Nth Qld?

It's got me beat!
