Hi fellow forum users,

I'm a new 1st time user on this forum. I am looking for correct technical specifications on the maximum all-up combined weight that can be placed on the roof track mounting points on the Discovery 3. I have trawled the web looking for the data without any success.

The reason being that I am considering buying one and want to mount my existing Shippshape rooftop tent on top. The Shippshape weighs about 42 kg and with two occupants the all-up weight would be about 200 kg.

Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated

Hello ramirez and welcome aboard!.:D

The 'dynamic' load for a D3 roof is 75kg. This is simply a safety limit imposed by euro/US law to reduce roll over risk.

The roof itself can take the full weight of the vehicle. I have a rackmaster (frontrunner) roof rack and mount an ARB tent on top. The roof is more than capable of taking the load.

If you get the sunroofs (in which most of the roof is glass), you may need check how your rack attaches to the captive nuts in the roof. The rack I have was supplied with load distributing spacers to take any load off the glass.
