Conclusion to previous thread 'what's killing my ignition?': Cowboy wiring!
Sometime in its past, the immobilizer (or part of) packed in due to bad or broken soldering which was circumvented by adding a live feed to the coil from the ignition. This wire was the culprit as it was fitted with a snap-lock type of connecter which must have loosened after our last trip.
Immobilizer dismantled and resoldered, extra wires removed. All good now. Plus I now have a spare ignition module..
Still love my beast; at least he got us home and didn't break down in the middle of Goog's Track last month!

Common problem.
Bought a Laser for my daughter and it wouldn't start.
Saw it had an old alarm, which was not connected.
Pulled it all out and saw that even if off the ign to coil went through the relay in the alarm which had died. Stripped it all out, and no more problem.
If you have an old unused alarm, strip it all out.
