View Full Version : I abandoned Black Betty

BlackBetty has been very very naughty, and for her misbehavior she has been left to wallow in the mud for the nite after getting bogged twice today.
Went out at lunchtime to cut some wood, went up a new track I havent used.It became a tad wet underfoot, too wet to turn a trailer around but not too bad.Came around the next bend and things went pear shaped, waterhole, that with no trailer on would have been fine, got thru ok but the trailer started acting like an anchor.I broke thru the track thanks to TC and an unlocked CDL.
I aired down unhitched the trailer and promplty sank to the diffs.Droped to 10psi,added a few branches and got a foot or so at a time. After 2 hours I was free.
Came back to town to get some recovery gear to free the trailer, picked FatBaz up to give me a hand.
We returned to the trailer, set the cable and straps up,went to back up a foot and down she went again.
Couldnt free her,no mobile range and pouring rain.
We decided leave it there for the nite, now dark, walked for 1/2 hour in the pouring rain till we got enough phone service to get Deb to pick us up.
Just fitted the SuperSwampers to the Rangie, going out to recover BlackBetty and the trailer in the morning,we may still end up with a bogged Rangie yet,its been bucketing down!!!!
I will take the camera:D:D:D:D:D
At least if BlackBetty gets found by pig hunters I dont think they will ransack her,as they will be stuck to.Got my chainsaw, recovery gear, tools etc in the Disco, hope nobody finds her till we return!!!!

Guys,

Just had a phone call from some nomads in WA.
One 99 TD5 Disco, being stripped for parts, everything available and cheap.
Should be posted in Markets section soon. :p

Just got back.
Sank the rangie with swampers on soon as we got there.
front/rear lockers dont prevent the earth from opening and swallowing you up.
An hour or more to free that then onto BlackBetty.Had to clear a track as there was no way we were going to get out,way too far to solid ground.
BlackBetty had eased herself into the mudbath overnite, sitting nicely on her belly.Jacking diging logs under tyres we got her out, only damaged snapped 1 hi-tensile bolt on my recovery point(1/2" plate steel) and bent it sidways. That Rangie has some grunt when it has good dirt to grab onto.Couldnt use the bridle strap as we had it around a tree to give a better pull angle on the snatch strap.
The trailer was pretty easy, after recovering the Rangie wich dissapeared again whilst getting ready to pull the trailer.
Lots learnt,THANKS FAT BAZ FOR THE ASSISTANCE!!!!.
I didnt sleep much last nite thinking my Disco was getting stripped, and Baz didnt sleep at all,he just got home from a party when I picked him up.
Will post pics this arvo!!!!
