Hi all, I am restoring a series IIa and my father in law is doing some welding on the chassis for me. Having some trouble getting the right rods for the job. Does anyone know what steel the chassis is made of? We have use some mild steel plates but it has taken a lot of mucking around. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

If its a mil spec truck the chasis is gal dipped and will be a bugger to weld unless ya grind off the gal tho it should be quite simple to weld with say a 2mm 13s cig rod and around 70 od amps on a stick welder ....

The chasis is just mild steel tho may be rusty so give it a good grind and fit the earth clamp as close to the weld area as possibale :D:D:D:D

If its a S11 the chassie aint Galed (unless somebody has done it after it left the army)
there just a mild steel rail...so should presant no special problems in welding

Yup, only the later perentie 110's had galvanised chassis. Should just be plain old steel.
