Street Maps

Does anyone know where i can download street maps of country victoria? I have a country street directory but i need something a bit more thorough/detailed, particularly around south gippsland.

Have you tried Google maps? Go to Google - then click on "more" - then go to Google maps - type in a location - you can even get a sat image with street name overlay if the area is covered with sufficient resolution. Works in most places.

Yeah, only the map works in the area i want, but to get the details of road names of an area i would have to print out heaps of pages making the map physically huge when put together.:(

You have several options :

1. There's a guy on ebay selling Map Monkey with Destinator 6 Maps for all of Australia. I bought a copy for $50. The maps are 2006 copyrighted, but in reality they're about 5 years old. Still for $50 strret mapping for all of Australia isn't too bad.

2. Go to your local CFA and beg for an old copy of the FireMap CD. It has all of Victoria in 1:10,000 detail. It's copyrighted and issued to Gov't Depts only. It's not as easy to navigate at street level as Map Monkey due to its very high level of detail. I don't know whether it can be calibrated to GPS.

3. Buy a GPS Navman or similar, or upgrade your phone to a new Navigating one. A friend bought the new Nokia and apparently it uses satellites for navigation, not phone towers.

4. Get a Next G Card for your laptop and use Google or Sensis maps on the move, rather than storing them.

5. see what anyone else suggests....
