Hiya,

I've discovered that the fuel sender on a D3 is at the rear of the tank.

Last night in Brisbane the traffic was horrible. Left Albion at 4.45PM and got home to Kuraby at 6.15PM. The ICB, Coro Dve, Riverside Expressway all a carpark.

Anyway, I left the office with the trip computer saying I had a range of 46k remaining for a 23k trip. After 45 minutes I found myself stopped in the traffic facing down hill in River Tce at Woolloongabba heading for the freeway.

So I'm sitting there doing nothing when I glanced at the dash and saw the range drop from 40 to 30, then over the next 2 or 3 minutes count down to zero.

Not knowing whether the fuel line is at the same point as the sender, I turned off the car and just rolled down the hill with the traffic. Finally reached level ground in the middle of the Stanley St intersection and had to restart. Still zero range. Tried to exit out to Vulture st to get fuel but no bastard would let me cross over the 2 lanes required!

Another 10 minutes and I'm on the on-ramp (facing uphill) for the freeway, range jumps to 1, then 2 and climbs back to 15.

Finally got to the garage near home with 5k range.

Lovely way to spend a Friday arvo. Not only stuck in traffic but I had images of me trying to push 2.8 ton of D3 off the road!

Hi WhiteD3, not long after my wife got her D3, I had to go to Moree in the D3 to pick her up and on the way I got to the top of Cunninghams Gap and noticed I only had 20 kms Range but wasn’t too concerned as there is a servo just over the range.

Wasn’t opened was it, so I continued on and as the next servo is at Warwick I backed off the speed a fair bit and like you I just kept watching the Range count going down and down and down till around 4 kms from the servo, it read 0 and stayed that way.

Not only made the servo but the tank, according to the bowser, still had 2 lts in it.

On another trip, in my Rangy, I filled up at Tamworth, headed north and then down the range from Tenterfield.

By the time I got to the bottom of the range, between the odometer's distance already covered of around 245 kms and because of the many kms of going down the steep grade off the range, the range had climbed up to 999 ( it’s maximum count ), so I was going to get over 1,250 kms out of a 100 lt tank.

I don’t think so.

I only use these range readings now as a rough guide.

Cheers

Ha, what a coincidence, I was on 0 yesterday, for sometime mind you and was going to fill up on way to a clients but thought would keep going..............mistake. Went to take a right turn into Mudgeeraba village and the beasty stopped. Turned the key.........nothing. Same thoughts of pushing black beast to the side :o. Put hazards on, thought perhaps shaking car whilst inside might slosh some fuel or vapour around as servo was literally 200metres behind me. Tried again.........the V8 fires up :D:D. Gently, gently I ease the accelarator and turn around gingerly.........then with just enough pressure to keep the car moving drive back up to servo and fill up. Won't be doing that again

Regards

Stevo

Streamlining would be the last of my worries. Overcoming 2.8t on inertia and my sagging pride in failing to do so would be bad:(
