View Full Version : Why I ended up in hospital

Something called heart flutter got me, the top half of the heart was flapping away and not much blood was getting through, the heart was topping out out at 176 which is not goo, should be 60 -80, 100 ok for a big boiler like me, the cure is they shock u with the defribulator and set your back into proper rythm, I cant be gassed so I cant have this, it has to be chemically controlled for life,
so a message I guess for those of carry afew to many kilos and generally dont lead too active lives, lose a few kilos and get more active, run around the landy a few times or something, this scared the woolys out of me and all those around, its really quiet horrifying to think that u can be here today and tomorrow the missus is having the old landys junked. This is my little tip for all to consider:wasntme:

So we know what causes the hearty but was there an initial incident that caused this increase in revs on your tacho? Did you see a nicely decked out Rangie Sports, see a cheap Defender or should the answer be in the mud pit.
Regardless it's good to see your OK

Think of it this way, dobbo ...
The heart has 2 cylinders (right ventricle and left ventricle) and two superchargers (right atrium and left atrium). Unlike a usual motor, in this case the speed of the supercharger controls the RPM, not the other way around. Landyfromanotherland had a short-circuit in his supercharger timing mechanism that pushed the RPM high, so cylinders followed. Probable causes - overstretched the chamber or had a small heart attack (probably the first if they've done all the tests.
The trouble with the chemical control is that the superchargers (atria = plural of atrium) aren't working properly, not coordinating with the cylinders and so lose 30% of the power. Resetting the timing would be the cure, but not possible by the sound of things :(

yeh, from another health person - if you feel slightly funny, just call that Blood box! We don't mind checking you over - it's our job.
take care and look after your ticker.
Alastair
ps. love the post scrambler. I've never thought of the atria as superchargers before!

Hey Andy, I know exactly where your coming from, I have AF, Atrial Fibulation, Im on medication called Sotolol and it really knocks the wind out of you.
Mine took off one night and got up to around to 200+ I think 208 was the highest on the read out and so they gave me Amioderone which isnt very nice stuff as it tries to stop your heart.
I am stable now and am heading for an operation in early september to zap a node in my atriam that is setting it all off.
There are some great sites on AF (if thats what it was) for if you get any repeat eppisodes, PM me if you want any more info.
There are some great treatments around these days but a lot of Cardiologists dont try the new stuff if you only have AF, the treat it as if it isnt important.
It isnt nessesarilly caused by your weight but more by stress which can be caused by weight and can also be hereditary or just out of the blue.
It is relatively common, my bro in law also has it but each person is different, some need shocking to revert and others need medications, and it is more common in older people which have been under stress through their lives and then start to relax.
Glad to hear your out of hossy and back in good spirits and Im hoping good health and it wouldnt hurt any of us bulkyer blokes to lose a few pounds anyway lol.
Good luck mate and give me a hoy if you want any of the info.
By the way, 1 asprin a day can help with blood flow for every one but talk to your DR before starting it as it may not work well with other medications.
With AF or SVT you are MORE likely to stroke, not have a heart attack as such but it doesnt mean it cant be started by a heart attack, this is why I take asprin when Im not on warphrin.

Thanks NM, Ive been getting a bit nervous about it recently as Ive never been to hossy other than being born and then a few times until I was stable on the meds.
They said I should be out after one night so it all should be good, I have to take at least 2 weeks of work because my job is pretty physical and I will have to wein off the meds apparently so Im taking 3 and hopefully go away for a week or so once im feeling ok.
From what I hear it is very simple and straight forward so there shouldnt be any need to worry ( I keep telling my self that anyway).
I just hope Andy's gets sorted with out all the meds and tests that Ive had to go through, there are people that have 1 attack and never have it again and then there are people like me that just have to be difficult lol.
Thanks again NM, it makes me feel better the more people I hear that have had it.
How long was it until he noticed it was gone? or did he just not have any after the op at all?

And thats just the ones in your trousers :D
Imagine how much you could lose if you lop the one above the neck off :p:
Ooh! At their ages they need the above collar level head far, far, more than they need the below belt level one. But, it is cruel of NM to remind +middle aged warriors of their short-comings.
NM, peddle them some pills to stiffen their resolve. Also some deceptive spectacles to wear, so the old crackers they are likely to attract look like nubile teenagers from page 3 of Murdoch Mail.

G'day Landyfromanotherland :)
Glad that you are out of hospital :D your other half has been keeping me informed, your Dr will tell you if you need to go on Astrix (asprin) I have 1x100ml every morning for blood thinning since I had Quad Bypass, and Zocor for Chlorestrol control, NM will correct my spelling if it is wrong:D
Mcrover: don't worry, it stresses you, those blokes that do that type of stuff are EXPERTS and do it daily, so if you stress it makes you slow to recover, that was the advise that I was given before my Bypass surgery;)
cheers

Hey landyfromanuthaland, hope all goes well for the future.
Maybe we should start a medical issues section on this forum as there are many of us with illnesses (as well as sick landies).
