Hi All,
Must be that time of year, we all seem to be doing brake pads or rotors :(
I've got to replace pads and rotors on my 1999 Defender TD5.
It has ABS/TC, so I'm curious, is there any special requirement for pads and rotors with ABS/TC?
I was thinking of getting DBA slotted rotors,
and either;
Bendix 4wd or Heavy Duty Pads,
or EBC Greenstuff Pads.
What life span have others got out of their pads?

No special requirements - just get the correct rotors and pads for your model. There are a couple of different fronts I think, but all the rears are the same (across the D2s).
I just did my rear rotors and pads. I just went with the standard rotors but got the EBC Green Stuff pads - definitely go with them! No more squealing, its pure bliss... when the front ones wear out they'll get the EBC treatment as well.
Only one thing with the EBCs, they are quite thick and I had to tickle the inside of the cailper with a file - less than 1mm - to get them in. It may be due to the shim material on the pads - its kind of a rubber mat.

if you are doing the job yourself........make sure o remove the sensor ring from the old rotors and fit them to the new rotors.........
the sensor ring is for the abs and traction control.......

Finally EBC have done something about the backing I HATE my EBC pads because of the squeal! I don't seem to be able to eliminate all the squeal, they still make noise at the last little bit before I stop dispite using ALL the known cures to stop brake noise I've even posted on here on the products to use to stop squeal. even had contact with dra the distributors of EBC about the squeal. Defenders take DP61033 on the rear these pads didn't come with chamfer on the leading edge, put one on! comes with a slot down the centre great! doesn't have any anti squeal backing use a brake adhesive rather than the thin layer of silicone on the back such as CRC anti squeal as I've found that eventually the piston cuts through this and your squeal starts all over again

Thanks guys.
I've got to check my rear discs to confirm which size they are.
- dba lists two different types.
Mine has a Sals rear, but its a 1999 TD5 with ABS/TC.
Rear rotors need doing first, but will change fronts too.
Hadn't thought about the sensor rings, are they easy to remove?
Are they the same front/rear?
