Hi Guys
I was about to give a friend a couple of 24 spline drive members to replace a broken free-wheeling hub on a Series III 109" when the answer came back that the vehicle has 19 spline front half shafts.
Is that right?

err, 24 and 10 are the only number of splines that I know of fitted to series landies. How strange?

It gets worse - when I queried 19 they did a re-count and came up with 12.
Maybe someone needs to go an do sum arifmatick at skool!

I have heard of 19 spline jobs before on an earlier threads maybe do a search on the threads to see what you come up with.
Thanks

If Quaife are 19 spline, is that both the diff end and the wheel hub end or just at the diff end?

Diana, have a look at Quaifes online catalogue
http://www.quaife.co.uk/LAND-ROVER-AXLE
this may help you to figure out what you're looking at, my 2000 catalogue seems to refer to heavy duty shafts for a 19 spline Quaife diff but with 24 or 23 spline LR outers depending on which shaft you're referring to.

You're right with the "seems" the whole LR bit of the website is quite awkward to decifer, still not sure about the outers on the front!
They "seem" to say that they are "only" available for both CV models. But very unclear if they use the original CV.
In any case it does appear that the Quaif would not have been available for the front of a pre-Stage 1 Series III so my hunt for 19 or 12 spline drive flange for the front continues (or maybe is left with the poor "arifmatick") :(

Diana, not sure if this helps at all but quaife diffs were able to be used on earlier LRs running 4.7 diffs with the addition of this.http://www.quaife.co.uk/Crownwheel-spacer-when-using-4-7-ratio
Its still vague as to what spline the drive members were for what outer shafts so when you have the spline number confirmed, it may be worth an email to them, I've always found them forthcoming in the past, very polite & willing to answer dopey questions. Unusual seeing as where they come from.;):D
