As some of you know we had some new tyres fitted last week. (Dueler 604V) much quieter on the road, let you know how they compare to the Coopers we had off road after the weekend.
Anyway at the same time we had a wheel alignment done. (I thought on beam axles there wouldn't be much adjustment but anyway) Looking at the report it seems Other than toe in, not much was done and it is out. To my knowledge the suspension seems standard. (no lift).
Hoping someone can make sense of them for me... Here Goes

Are those in mm?
Your disco is supposed to have 1-3mm TOE OUT - so their specs are wrong!
The only thing that can be easily altered is toe in/out. Camber can be altered by fitting shims between the axle casing and the swivel ball. Caster can only be changed by altering bushes or radius arms.

Don't know it doesn't say on the print out.
performed by Visualiner (I assume an alignment machine?) if that helps!

I would be inclined to double-check the toe out yourself. Run a builder's string line along both sides of the car at hub height - touching the front of the front tyre and back of the back tyre. With the wheels pointed straight ahead, there should be a gap between the string line and the rear of the front tyre(s) that when you add it up comes to about 3mm.

i took my'n to pro axle today
NOT impressed basically told me that i should not be running the tyres i'm running as they are no good off road and why would i want to run them and i should run toyo's then proceeded to treat me like an idiot, told me that he couldn't put my car on the machine as i have self cleaning wheels:eek:
and the wheels i have are unusuall for a disco (even though they are disco alloys)
said alot of other stuff to me as well but i'm so upset at the way he treated me i cant even bring myself to type the stuff............its the second alignment person that has done that to me now admittadly the first actually came back after driving my car and was impressed at the handeling of the tyres and the set up of the car and looked slightly emmbaressed
think from now on i need to get ian to take the car to places like this as they just dont take me seriously:(

IMO if you have a solid-axled landy, there is no point paying someone for wheel alignments. They are very low-tech beasties. Basically - you just need to check that the bushes are all OK, then set up the toe-out like I have described above. 1-3mm toe OUT for coillers, 0-3mm toe IN for series.

One thing I've noticed with LR's is halfwit's are always going "thats going to be dear, these's are a bastard to fix,no one else make them like this'' Blah Blah.Go to somone else who cares about the job not the badge.I worked out along time ago who to see about repairs-service and give them my money. So which one was it, Newcastle, Muswellbrook, Wollongong, Narellan, Strathfield. They shouldn't get away with that! :mad:

I'll give the string line a go at the weekend. Thanks for that.
I wondered if it was worth it but not knowing much about that side of thins and how they all work together I didn't want to take the chance with putting a new set of tyres on aswell. (Not that there was an issue with the old ones wearing oddly. Except I didn't rotate them! It also worn the front left more than the others but I put that down to turning, we have a lot of roundabouts here!)

assuming everything is straight.....unlike lurchs rear radius arm.......
and all the ball joints and bushes arent worn........and neither are the wheel bearings........
then the string method as mentioned above is actually the way wheel alignments were meant to be done on these set ups........
they are still pretty much a basic design like they were back in the sixties.......just with more electricals added......
the only adjustment any alignment place will make is toe......
and they will pretty much just set it to zero......
it will take less time to actually get a length of string and set up and adjust the alignment....than it would take
for you to drive down to the alignment place.......
if you adjust the alignment.......then chances are you steering wheel will now be off centre........
this is simply adjusted by turning the drag link......the one that comes from the steering box.......
