use a pin punch on the race of the bearing at the bottom while pulling it from the top. it will move maybe 1/16th of an inch if your lucky, change the positions of the hooks and the pin punch and repeat, given time it will wiggle free.
Dont do this if your trying to save the bearing.

don't care about bearing it's rooted just need to get it out have a nice new shiny one to go in so am i right in guessing that this will be a pita to get out without pulling the case out ??? by the sounds of it it will be there untill the weekend

If it's the front output bearing, remove the circlip (you've done that) put the drive flange back on and pull the whole shaft and bearing out with it with a slide hammer etc. the shaft is only sitting there anyway and will just push back in again when you pull the bearing off. I read this on another website, let us know how you get on. :D

was driving back along beach changed to low range to exit and head back to bitumen noticed a clunk into low thought thats odd exited the beach jumped under the truck and had a look around grabed the front prop shaft and it had play thought ok uni's are buggered moved it again and noticed about 5mm play in the flange thought ohh this can't be good started driving back to the ferry whith one hell of a vibration at speeds over 60 kmh and a howl from the box that changed with speed made for one slow trip back to brissy.. after removing shaft and flange spining the output shaft i could feel the bearing binding and see the play in it .
now all i need to do is get the bloody thing out lol

hi guys i did not get a chance to touch the disco today as hope so i thought i would just ask if there is anybody else that has removed the front output shaft to get the bearing out are there any other gears there that can come lose or be moved by slidehammering the shaft out i am just feeling a little hesitant as it not something i have done before

ok guys update time in the end i removed teh whole shaft and bearing in 1 suprisingly simple ;) changed teh bearing put every thing back together oiled her up
then the test drive drove out of teh driveway everything was great start off down the road and get to about 40kmh and it starts to whine bad so looks like i am up for a new transfer case :(
on the upside the vibration in the front shaft has gone
but it seems the disco will be parked up for a while untill i can finance a new secondhand reco transfer
