Hi All,
Actually I'm looking for anybody who lives in MtGambier and area to go on day trips, follow tracks like Glenelg River or Crawford River or somewhere else.
There are a few modded 4WDs in our town, unfortunally not Land Rovers, but how to approach them I do not know. Not much interest drive alone...
:(
Any respons, comments and advices appreciated.
Thanks,
Ruslan

G'Day Again Blokes, Im getting of weekends soon , or changing job altogether , so we hope to do more trips with our local & LR clubs.
So we are interested in doing something. Im keen to meet up with other members from the western part of the state, something central maybe halls gap for a weekend, I know of a great camping spot (just need to find it on the map again ;)), bbq's hot showers in the bush not far from Halls gap........very nice spot and safe for kids.

Hi Andrew,
Camping is different talk, requires a little more preparation compare to day trips. If you have a time and interest in day run let me know, I'm planning before the end of the wet season :) go to check Rocklands tracks conditions.
Cheers,
Ruslan

Just a day trip up to 400km. 2 years ago we went 4 cars and spent 7 hours crossing the Rocklands Reservoir. Don't think we'll go againg into swamp, only forests around. I have some plotted tracks from our previouse trips, so have an idea where to go. Remind me, I'll show you.
Recovery gear - everything what you have: all sort of straps, chain, saw, axe, jacks, etc. I couldn't imagine I'd be pulled out from swamp using 5 std snatch straps + 2x20m extension straps + tree trank protector joined together. The pulling power against swamp suction was awesome. Don't think i want that kind experience again. Anyway it was fun.

Either UHF Chan 15 or 17, depending on the traffic on the radio...
ETD is unknown at this stage.....

Hi Ruslan,
Yep thats ok, Im all for day trips etc but the way I see is if we travel for a few hours to get somewhere I much rather make it worth while and take the camper trailer.
But having said that if you are still planning something let us know, Im sure a few good mates (good blokes, no BS) will come along too, but best not make it a Hamilton Club run as there is one Nissan owner who is a real Goose (******).....so let us know mate ;)

Hi Andrew,
I see him time to time, it seems he lives near Blue Lake. Don't know owner, I'm not so brave simply to knock a door "Hi, you own landy, me too,.. lets make a friendship"
Also short white lifted troopcarier (was going to say 90 troopy :) saw several times on the driveway.
Never've seen them dirty or/and loaded for camping, so don't think owner interested in that sort of staff. But if I'll get a chance to meet him, I'll ask :)

We couldn't go further, so decided to turn back and run away one by one:

Kept telling to my Landy "Don't slow down, mate"

Suction made recovery very difficult:

Great Pic..... now that is a good reason to not use those hooks....
Id take the hook back to the manufacturer and ask for a replacment or refund.... and the snatch to be replaced as it has to be damaged after that...

The weekend is called Burn the Scarecrow
Its is a interclub deal, where at least 4 clubs take it turn to hold the event.
Its called Burn The scarecrow becasue they have a big bonfire and during saturaday all the kids help make a big scarecrow out what ever they can find, dress him up then stick him on top of the fire and burn him up later that night.....kids Love it....Oh and there is a prize for the person who names the poor sod.
The place is big, dont know for sure how big but thay can run 3-4 driving events there and not see anybody else for a while, driving course where you need to drive around a course and touch "bits" hanging from tree's with a certain wheel or with a mirror etc, so I would have a guess and say hundreds of acre's if not thousands......
King of the mountain were there is a sand dune and we just see who can get up the highest from a standing start (I almost won it last year if it wasent for a tool in a Nissan with 35's making big ruts:twisted:).
Last year they had a very low 6x4 trailer, we had reverse to hook up, driving around a small course , stop then reverse around a corner and other stuff and finish up in a "Parking Bay" etc, that was good fun , but when I first saw it I wasent that keen, because I really hate 6x4's
Also had one of those drive and question type deals (dont know what they call them) where you drive out on the scrub tracks and need to find a post with a few questions on a sheet, do that heaps then who ever gets the most questions right gets more points for your club.
Also had a basic nav run, good for people to use the GPS.
Also had an event where there was a post with an 4L ice cream container on top with tennis balls in it. the idea was just like musical chairs, 4 cars, 3 balls, drive around post at a big safe distance, horn gos, passenger gets out and runs for the post and balls, last one holding his balls wins......
Its not a big track weekend, its manily for the kids (and Big Kids) to get away, lots of fun but nothing to serious.
I see it as a great family weekend and great for new members or people who are thinking about joining etc.
Plenty of camping room, two drop Loo's, free wood next to concrete fire rings all ready to go, terrain is fairly flat & lots of sand and scrub, lots of wildlife to Look at and eat:p, nothing super challanging but just good old country fun and mateship.......:)
Last year they had a big trivia night on saturday, it was a bit boring but they did try and get everybody involved as much as possible.......
My wife like it to so she can have a little drive without feeling the pressure of our club members watching and being smartarse's and then turn her off the whole club deal......But other than one member (that tool Nissan owner I was telling about before) everybody gets on very well, just need to keep an eye on those South Aussie's.........they talk funny dont you know:p:D

I'm working on that theory too...
