Hi all,

Am in the process of getting a new fridge and wanted to get other Disco 1 owners (with cargo barrier) perspectives on what size of fridge and positioning is best?

Pics of mounted fridges would be excellent.:)

With the cargo barrier, space is a bit lacking in the D1 for vertical positioning.

Also, someone mentioned to me that it is not good to have fridges running left to right rather than vertical with the car? didn't sound right to me.

Cheers
Matt

So will a 40 litre Waeco with one handle off. I took the rearmost handle off and replaced it with a home made pull handle made from webbing. This attaches to the fridge with a bit aluminium flat strip mounted into the orginal handle mounting holes. You can grab the webbing to pull the fridge out on the slide.

This is how I have mine, removed the front handle and used a piece of dog leash to make a soft handle.

engel 40l fits nicely in the gap when you fold up the right seat, if you don't need to fit 4 bums in, and travels nicely there, mate has had his there for three years no trouble, and has travelled lots with it

I prefer having the fridge instead of the back seat. I did that in my Rodeo dual cab. It means you don't have to stop to get drinks or food.

Mmmmmmmm food :spudnikparty:

Just make sure it is strapped down with big anchor points as they are hard and heads are relatively soft.

Yes - I pulled up the carpet in mine and attached a steel bar across the rear of the vehicle using the third row seat anchor points. I then welded a small chain to the steel bar and attach the fridge to that.

I mount mine east/west. That creates a large unused space just behind the cargo barrier. So made a wooden box in a triangular shape to fill that void. I store my recovery gear there and it helps keep a 30mm gap to the fridge wall.

Thanks for the input and photos.:)

I think I'm going to go a waeco (CF 40). it will fit in nicely nth to sth and suits my needs.

If anyone is after some cheap ($650) 50 litre waeco (superseeded model - no digital readout) then look here: http://www.getawaeco.com.au/default.asp?id=292&catId=6

Too big for my car:(.

Thanks again.

I have a CF50 in the back of mine, minus one handle and hard up against the back of the seat.

I dont know how you would goe with the cargo barrier, I doubt it would fit if the barrier goes down to the floor but Im going to fit a barrier that only goes to the top of the back seats so the fridge will still fit and so will all my other kit.

We stuck ours north/south where the rear left hand seat goes.. that was for a 3 month trip. I took that seat out and stuck it there so you can reach around for a coldie or a snack whilst on the move. It allowed room to keep the vents happy and worked well for all (wife) concerned. It fitted flush with the barrier and front of the remaining seat.

It was a 60L Waco with the bag. Cant find any photo's...which is unlike me.

Hope this helps. Great little fridge too.

Matt.

Hi Mate;

I have also My 40L Engel fitted North = South without need to remove any seats or need for handles.

It fits straight on top of a 40L Engel Bracket which is made/designed for a 40L engel.
Fridge doesnot Slide ( no need) i can actually get to the Fridge ,
I can send photos , it's all incorporated into my Shelf system.

However if you wish to have your Fridge slide you can get a Fridge slide that doesnot require any handles , The 40L Engle Feet Screw Straight into the Bracket, You take top part of Bracket off , Screw it to the Fridge and Put the Fridge and Bracket back on Slide , so you can fit your 40L engel North = South no worries. no seats removed.

cheers mate ,

Let me know if you need any photos.

Well I got a fridge: Waeco CF40 + more.
Perfect for my needs and a bargain it was!!!:D

Anaconda in Bayswater was having a special:

Waeco CF40 Fridge RRP $929
Wiring Kit RRP $109
Cover RRP $130
Additional Cooler RRP $100
Total RRP $1270.
Special pack Price: $949:eek: Best price i have found.

So I trooped all the way out to Bayswater which was quite far for me (45 mins).

When I got there (anaconda) it was packed with people due to the specials. Went to the accessories counter and asked for the pack only to be told "we have sold out, we sold out of them in 1 hour and we only had 10 packs":mad::mad:

So i left in a huff as the advertisment did not say limited stock so i thought at the very least they could order another in at that price, answer: "No, one time deal":mad::mad:

Next day, went to Rays Outdoors (5 minutes down the road to Bell St). Went in to buy the CF40, cover and wiring kit at what i expected to be the RRP (or anything else i could bargain them down to) and thought I'd try them out on matching the Anaconda special.... The kid looked at the special and said "ohhh, don't think so but i'll check with my manager".

Comes back and says "ok, we can do it". F**k me, wasn't expecting that. However they didn't have a cooler (which i didn't care about) so i said i don't need it... but he says it has to be done as a pack (like the anaconda deal) or nothing.:( Then he says "you can take the rest and we'll order the cooler in for you":)

Quickly, i paid and bundled it into the car and drove off.:D
