Hey guys, have got a winch, but only have a standard ARB bullbar. how much extra strengthening of the bullbar should I be doing when I mount the winch? Anyone done this before?
Cheers

What sort of a winch?? If its a low mount your better off making a cradle to go between your rails, i've made them and they work well, if it high mount you'll have to hack the bar

yeah its just a low mount, and I was going to strengthen the fron of the bar where i cut the hole for the cable, but do i need to then strengthen the arms where it bolts on to the chasis?

I'd be far more inclined to build a cradle;)

Hey DassaW, i'm in the same boat as you bud. I've got some good ideas for the one on discoweb.org
But yes deffinatley build a cradle, most likely welded between the crush cans.

How about bolted to the chassis rails:D

The way my ARB bar is set up i don't think you be able to bolt it to the chassis rails ?? the crush cans in these bars are in essence, i guess an extension of the chassis ?

Mmmm haven't look at a disco 2 arb bar:(
Personally I'd put them in the bin and build a little bumber with winch holder, far better approach angle:)

I've done one - and it works well.
Have a look at this:

It may help, especially the description of the standard ARB winch bar ( which only has an extra 3mm plate at the front).
If you were worried about how to make a cradle that fits in with your crush cans ( Note: Confirm you have crush cans and SRS stuff) then you should be able to fit a piece of 5mm plate to the inside front of the bar, weld it up, cut out some holes and fit your winch without interference to the airbag system.
Or if you do not have airbags, I can recommend making the simple cradle. The angle of the sides from the horizontal to fit into my TJM bar was 13 degrees. The local steel shop made a total 4 cuts with their shears, all I did was weld it, drill 4 holes and oxy the hole for the fairlead.
