At last now I know it's an original land rover, after just under 250 000km the front diff has started to leak. so what now, do I sell it (just kidding). Is this an easy fix or am I going to pay hard $$ for this one!
Cheers

depends on where its leaking from....
failed gasket or pinion seal? cracked housing? blowing it out the breather? or has the filler plug come loose?

Easy - if it is the pinion seal, it is a DIY job provided you have replaced seals before and have a torque meter that does up to 130Nm. You'll also need to make somthing to hold the drive flange, as doing up the nut pushes the vehicle around instead of the nut. A steel bar about a metre long should suffice, with holes so you can bolt it to the flange.
ps: Don't exceed 130, as it will alter the collapsable bearing size and hence the backlash of the pinon to the crownwheel.

Not so, rover pinions are shimmed and dont have a callapsable spacer;)....not bearing:confused:

Looks like it's the pinion seal. Will take it in as I have two trips coming up over the next month or so. Thanks!

At 250k it may want more than a replacement seal, might be wanting a speedy-sleeve.

You can get the seal to run on a different surface, also seals that are offset different to:)

Due to persistant leaks with my RRC, I had the flange very lightly machined, yet its still within spec for a std seal. Works a treat.
