Putting a D1 on gas,,

I am considering putting my 97 V8 disco on gas , but have a few quetions befor i talk to the gas company.

1. Which brand of kit to put on? which are good which are bad?

2. To go full time gas, or stay both gas and petrol (if i have this option)?

3. where to put the tanks?
4. i would like the most range posible. How far would that be? Dont want to put tanks in the back as will lose lugage space which i dont have enough off now.

have done a search here but did not realy find what i was looking for

any help would be greatly apreciated

My 96 Disco has the sill tanks and runs on gas-petrol.$4800 less $2000 rebate saves you $50 every 500k's.You won't regret it. Pat

On the 88 RR I have scuba tanks where the main tank went. The AFL valve doesn't close properly, so I can squeeze in 80 litres for a long drive. There's a 40l quater panel tank and 2 x 35l subtanks that transfer fuel to the main via an electric pump.

with 190 litres I have a good touring range - but when you tour you always stop and top up the gas rather than run on ULP. So it's only good for extended stays in the bush, or areas where LPG isn't available. With this in mind, the range isn't extended in areas where you're tempted to pick up more LPG.

I asked several places for gas sill tanks at the time and all said it couldn't be done:mad:.

SWMBO was adamant she did not want to lose the flat floor or have to reach up high to get at the Fridge & whatnot.
We ended up with the 70L twin torpedos underneath & about 30something qtr panel petrol.
It's not enough of either.

I am debating whether to fit an additional 3 chamber scuba on the cargo floor or 45ish L petrol sill tanks or BOTH. The petrol tanks are cheapish 2nd hand but the gas is the exxy one.

The sill tanks are the ones Rumble LR recommend as you don't loose space.They are a neat fit. Pat

1) On your first question, I'm not sure what system I have fitted on mine as I bought my discovery on gas already
2) I would have it as dual fuel, it gives you the cheap running cost where gas is available and the option of petrol where gas is not an option
3) I have my tanks under the car where the petrol tank normally goes. Quite neat and you could not even tell there are two tanks there.

My dad just got his disco done and got the tanks fitted in the cargo area and it really takes up a lot of space. In the positive, with this setup, he gets to keep the original petrol tank hence a longer range.
With my setup, the gas tanks replace the petrol tank and I have a small tank under the rear right hand guard, it is only around 30 liters and hence a small range.
Both petrol and gas combined, I get around 450km around town and around 600 on highway (big difference???)
At this stage I want to add another petrol tank to my car as when going out 4wdriving it is usually hard to find a servo that sells gas out in the bush.

I'm sure they mean petrol sill tanks as there is very little room to put a gas tank behind the sill - approx. 300mm diameter is all you'd get in.

Did a serch Pedro, as i said in my first post did not find what i was after. Was also wondering if there was something new out there that some one has.:)
