What would you consider a good price for tinting a 110 wagon?

Best locally so far is $340 for the darkest legal tint.

I thought it was reasonable for the work and material involved, but wanted to check with a few who had had it done.

Had mine done for that same price by Solace in Cannington..The Baztards removed the felt seal at the door meets glass and hid them under the rear seat..When I phoned in complaint they said they werent in at the start.. I went down there to press my argument more fully and the cowardly ***** sent his Mrs out to ask me to leave while he hid in the workshop. I werent leaving till I got it fixed or refund, so She refunded my money:)
She did it all while he hid,,,wangker.

At the risk of starting a debate up, why do you want the darkest legal tint,
to reduce the uv's my understanding is there is almost clear stuff that will do the same job.
I can't understand those that want to be in cars you can't see inside of, nothing worst at a traffic stop not being able to see in a car, makes for a justified pistol pointing excercise.

While I agree entirely with your sentiments (and the dark tinting makes you look silly - like a wannabe gangster), I have to point out that although there is little needed to stop UV - ordinary glass stops most of it - all the light that gets in, UV, visible, IR, when it lands on the upholstery or other interior bits is converted to heat. This means that the more you can reduce the light getting in, the less the interior heats up. This becomes important when you live in a hot, sunny climate (most of Australia), and unfortunately most cars sold here are either designed by people who live in cold climates where the more sun inside the better, or, in the case of the few that are not designed by people who live in a cold climate, are slavish copies of their styling. The Defender is, in fact, with its near vertical glass, just about the best car available for this climate.

What I don't know is how much difference is made by a modest tint compared to the maximum legal - I suspect not an enormous amount, but I don't really know.

John

PS My 110 has factory tinting, which is barely visible, and my 2a is untinted.

I got my info from a tinting place when i got the pajero done years ago, mainly to keep the heat off the little fella in the baby seat. The bloke showed me a tint, well in actual fact it was almost clear and told me it was the best UV reducer on the market. i ended up with one a tad darker than it. It wasn;t noteable at all, but made a huge difference.

ps any sign of rain yet?

Yes, my point is that UV is not the only concern, or even, in many cases, the major one. But even mild tinting makes a big difference to both UV and heat build up. In addition to my tinting I try to use a hook on blind next to my youngest grand daughter (2) when in the 110 - the little so-and-so won't leave it alone though!

No sign of rain here - possible isolated showers on Friday is the best they can say.

cost me 350 for darkest legal with Tinti professor in melb. Am very happy with it as it reduces UV and heat in the car..and also give a little bit more security to it....being a muso with valuables it does help.

this is on a 95 'fender.

$340, life time warrantly and a good job.

Mainly got for heat reduction. The cargo area is darker for the fridge.

$350 for my 110 in Mildura Tint-a-car arranged by the garage I bought it off. Asked for dark as is legal allowed. Got it back to SA and the rego office, and it was defected on the tint being too dark. In SA the allowable tint is less than VIC.

Guy defecting me was in the army and used to drive Landy's. Told me it was usual practice to scratch the tint to ensure it would be replaced, although he didn't do it to me. He also said that if I didn't change it, the insurance may not pay out in an accident, especially if it was at night, and especially as it had been defected. I phoned the garage, and they arranged to get an SA tint-a-car to replace at no cost.

Darkest legal tint isn't all that dark in my opinion. We have it in the D3, and night vision is fine.

I agree with jik22, it isn't that dark at all, and is not a problem at night, dusk or in rain. Looking at the car, you wouldn't think it has particularly dark tint.

I have darkest legal on the back seat and rear windows of my Rangie Classic.
Its good to stop the bad guys seeing if anything of value is in the car.
Helps the fridge a lot, although in hot weather a bit of tarp over the back window helps.
But reversing at night can be interesting, but all you have to do is wind down the driver's window.
Otherwise all you really have to see behind you on the road are headlights, and you can still see them with max tint.
Mine cost 350.

I disagree... You have no need to be looking inside my vehicle... I dont look in your house windows ;)

Darker tint reduces light into the cabin, heat and provides a mild security to the contents of the cabin.

My defender is limo tinted in the cargo side windows, lighter on rear glass and stages lighter mid windows to front...

Its also a semi reflective 1 way tint, so very easy to see out of, very hard to see into...

My vehicle, like my house, is my private area... You can watch the vehicle not my interior thanks!

had the rangie tinted a few weeks after I bought it, my previous rangie and toyota were tinted when I got them and I didn't realise what a huge difference to heat buildup inside the car it makes!

I got 15% I think it is metal film tint done, cost me about $400 for the bloke to come out and do it, but it cost more as he had to remove the factory tint which was not noticeable. They did my rear side window in a matching non metal tint for my GPS and radio aerials.

Here in SA its max 15% on front windows and rear windscreen, and NO tint on front windscreen. I don't think there is a rule about rear windows etc, I can ask, I talk to the the vehicle inspectors every day at work ;) They hate land rovers in general :( say they are bad rust buckets :(

I don't find any issues with 15% at night at all, I have been in a 25% car for a trip and that was a bit much for me.

Factory tint had to be removed? Hahaha....

The tint is IN the glass... Just how did he remove it

And SA law is 15% block on fronts (side) and 35% on the rest of the vehicle..... So they crapped on yet again at Regency Park...

It pays to know the laws and loopholes before going to see those pack of scum.

well on my P38 it came off with a special blade with some special spray? Maybe it was an aftermarket I don't know? but I watched him get a windows worth off before I went back in to work?

hey Regency's not that bad :) I hafta support those guys it pays for my rangie's petroleum addiction :)
