Leave the poor dingoes alone, these critters are like any animal they have a purpose, dingoes clean up all the dead rabbits and foxes and the odd baby!, the fox is the southern equivalent of the dingo and the only good fox is a dead one

Dingo's are fine as are Foxes...
Feral Cats do the most harm:twisted::twisted::twisted:
I Love trappin them baztards and droppin them into a 44gal drum of water in the cage, leave for 5 mins return problem solverd no one tore to bits, shoot 'n them is messy and hard to kill the baztards and just makes them mad:eek:..

Foxes and Feral cats do a lot of damage to the native wildlife. I remember seeing a documentary a coyuple of years back that said they were the most prolific of the non-native killers in this country. With the fox being slightly worse.

God knows why the european settlers decided to bring foxes over, beats me. I know it was just so the rich gentry could have some sport on a sunday afternoon. But when you think of all the aggro of catching the bloody things and shipping them over, it hardly seemed worth it, if you ask me.

G'day Gorby :)

Aaah! Gorby, you are missing the point, after spending several months on a stinking, leaking , sailing ship, and coming to this God-Forsaken land one needs to have a reminder of good old Mother England:) so we brought some reminders, Pideons,Sparrows, and for sport and food, Foxes, Rabbits, and Pigs just so we could have a little relaxation after flogging those wretcherd convicts:o So, a few got away and bred up, then we created DPI :D

cheers

hahahaah

Thinking about it foxes and feral cats do a lot of damage to wildlife in good ol' england too. It'll be interesting to see what will happen if the greenies get their way and ban every sort of hunting.

But that's a whole different argument that may not be suitable for this thread.

I don't know how many people know the history of Fraser Island. I have been visiting there since the early '80's and have seen many changes.

I met up with a guy from Burrum Heads who used to run cattle on Fraser long before it was a national park. He said the dingoes would pick off the odd sick animal for food. Dogs happy!

When the grazing ceased some of the horses were let go an became brumbies. That's the time I started visiting the Island. The dingoes had continuous food with the brumbies. Dogs still happy!

Enter the public with the burn, bash and bury rule for rubbish. Ever visited Fraser after Easter in the late '80's? Not many people burned their rubbish so the dingoes had a feast. National Parks tried to remove the brumbies by poisoning, shooting etc. More for for the dogs. Dogs still happy!

National Parks stopped the burn, bash and bury system and encouraged people to dump rubbish in open pit rubbish dumps. Still heaps of food for the dogs, and nicely located near townships. Dogs happy!

Then all rubbish had to be removed from the Island, oops no free food for the dogs. Dogs not happy!

It's no wonder the dingoes are confused. They are survivors and the people who make the rules now wonder what went wrong.

The way I see it, there are far too many dingoes for the available food. Simply fining people will not fix the problem.

I would have thought shooting them while in the cage would have been a fair bit easier? ;)

Only kidding....

Ban hunting? never, better bloody not. Foxes are rampant here, down at my ajistment centre every nite u can see them frollicking around the dam with gay abandon as knowone shoots at them, u have never seen fatter wood ducks or fat cockatoos as we have, they eat all the left over horse feed, and jolly jumpers all over the shop, the odd pig gets around, and wild goats, u should see the degradation these critters leave behind, Pigs will inthe not too distant future become a problem we wont be ablt to fix. whats all this go to do with landrovers? beats me, campfire banter!

actually studies have shown where you have dingoes you have smaller problem with feral cats and foxes as dingoes eat them.

so at the moment they are trying to convince the farmers to allow reintroduction of dingo populations as natural predator to cure man made pest problems

studies done in USA show reintroduction of wolves into National Parks like yellowstone has improved environment and bio diversity as wolves eating elks and mooses which selectively ate certain tree types which then died out in park causing land soil and water degradtion so reduced numbers of graziers trees & grasses making come back in park which then encourages other forms of wildlife to return.

Nature is wonderful pity we dont understand the need for balance it provides to maintain a healthy environment

see the indoneasians have told Australia to keep its promised $10 million for land re-afforestation program as its more money for them to chop the jungle back sell off the wood and farm the land

l say let them do it then shoot the ones in boats coming to Australia to live to avoid the ecological disaster they are creating

We should also just shoot the fishermen robbing our northern oceans, dont sailors always go down with their ships
