Hi All,
I didn't want to hijack Lokka's question on front springs so here's another question about rear springs.
My 110 has the self leveler removed and I have heard the rears are lighter rated compared to defender. I have an TJM steel rack to put on and a rooftop tent that weights 50kg, also add about 100=150kg behind cargo barrier.Would the normal springs deal with this weight ok, I will check in couple of weeks time when set up, just thought I would check opinions anyway. Also what's a reasonable price for higher rated springs if required.
Cheers
Paul

the difference between defender springs (21mm wire) and county springs without self leveller (19mm) is a bit of a mistery to me. I don't know why the defender would have such a beefed up spring.
Anyhow, I recently fitted dobinsons (rockhampton). Have a look a their online catalogue, it refers to county leveller and without leveller. Redlands 4wd sell them for about 180pr. Give them a call they are happy to discuss vehicle requirements.
Mine has no self leveller. Your welcome to come for a ride to see what you think.

I have yellow 2" lift springs and Firestone Coil-rite Air bags. I regularly have 750kgs in the back and three trestle tables on the roof. I use 35psi in the bags laden and 15psi unladen. I still have the leveller and it appears to work. I like the air bags.

I'd highly reccomend airbags inside the springs, polyairs and such. They are great for evening out the suspension when carring/towing heavy loads, also when you come home from a holiday and drive around town, you dont need a kidney belt. I don't run these myself, however my father has run them for the past 14 years, with very heavy loads with 2 punctures/holes. I think his defender has only 18mm rear springs too (custom wound).

I have Lovells HD all round with Bilstein comfort shocks, and highly recommend. Stay nice and level even with a big load, and ride is always supple and comfortable - even unladen.
