Me again with more plumbing questions....

i have compression fittings for under the sink... i dont want to solder just yet as i need the stopcock replacing as it doesnt fully shut off... and i dont want to burn the new island cupboards :D

anyway.. i have used compression fittings before using the copper olives... but have noticed that there were some nylon ones available today in a separate pack, so i picked them up.. they work with the fittings i have, but i want to know when it is you use them can they be used on copper? or are they for a specific purpose. googled it but came up with nothing...

What are you trying to join????
If its copper pipe conecting to a brass nipple then the nylon ones are better.

I recently replaced the copper pipes with flexible in the bathroom vanity as I was fitting a flick mixer. I noticed the original pipes used nylon olives - they'd been there for more than 20 years..

Nylon olives are fine, use them all the time, wrap a bit of thread tape around them before you do them up and they will never leak.

thanks guys im going to be using them to join copper to copper (1/2") and want to use them in the standard bunnings compression joints... still no problems?

what about the pipe slipping?

Same here, work fine , my stuffs all on pump, no mains water, so do my own
reno'd 2 bathrooms and laundry and kitchen, no probs
used nylon on the nuts and olive s and haven;t had any problems.

thanks guys.. the job is done and far neater than most plumbers would of done it (from what i have seen)

only problem i have is that the fittings can turn on the pipe as the pipe was annealed when it was sealed off by the plumber. it takes some effort to turn the fittings, and there has been no leaks over night, so im hoping all is good.

the only thing im worried about is the fitting slowly sliding up the pipe and popping off as we have good water pressure. i have marked the fittings and pipes with black ink anyway, so can see if it moves.

now all i need is a gas fitter........
