As of Wednesday 26th Sep I'll be back working in Brisbane for 2 weeks. If there is any members in the area that would like to come and say hello, give me a call on 041 8844 562 to arrange a time.
I will be at work from 0800 through to 1800 for most days whilst in Bris, so you will need to come and visit me at Archerfield Airport, where I am based as a Helitack pilot.
My days are very casual, unless we get a call out! so am more than happy to give members and their kids a look at Fire fighting helicopters.
Just call first to make sure where not out on a fire.
Regards,
Greg

Archerfield - Jeez, I haven't been there for years. When I was at high school, I used to ride my pushbike from both Calamvale and Inala (a dirt road in those days) to Archerfield to photograph 'planes.
Ahh, all the colour slides I have of aircraft in the Ansett Air Race in 1964 ...... :)
Great memories of the days when one could walk around airfields. I've even got photos I took of some Mosquitos down the back of the field.

Ron - naturally you had to hand tint those slides to be colourised...:p
Seriously though, assuming you weren;t photographing insects in the swamp, are you able to post any of the mozzie pics ? I'm a HUGE de Havilland fan !

Cheeky bugger.
The Mossie pics are black and white and taken with a box Brownie so the quality isn't great.
I'll have to find the album.
You'd be jealous of the fact that I was able to climb in an around them. :p

G'day P38arover
Aah! the Ansett Air Race :) I remember that, was at Archerfield that day (lived at Inala Brolga st) with my near new son, and saw Reg Ansett fly the DC-3 between the hangers at not much more that roof level  didn't think that you could do things like that with an Airliner :o (they were in regular service then) do you remember all the Ex-Airforce planes on the otherside of Beattie Rd for scrapping, with what became Thiess Bros hanger over on Kerry Rd (with the Hole in between) the remains of the Lincoln would have been down there with the Mossies.
cheers

I do remember those old aircraft. The Mossies I saw ended up down there for fire fighting practice.
I don't recall the Thiess hangar.
Re the DC3 still being in service, it still was in 1970 when Elisabeth (then my fiancee) flew from Adelaide to Ceduna to visit me.
BTW, we lived in Skylark St, Inala.

G'day P38arover :)
Ooh Dear! what a small world, mine was Flat D, Block1, Brolga St Inala, sounds like something from Stalag 99:D:D
The Thiess hangers were on Kerry Rd, they were used to assemble the White Trucks and Euclid heavy machinery for the mines and then driven down to the railway yards to load, "Clapham Junction" I think NSW rail yards, I got to drive one down in convoy once, couldn't get over the picnic set complete with beach umbrella on on the flat panel by the cabin, for driver rest breaks:) engine start for the diesels and all electricro/magnetic braking:) I was the parts clerk at the time.
cheers

G'day Vlad :)
You want to go up to the Caboolture Warbirds Museum on Aerodrome drive, you can even get a flight in a warbird of your (limited) choice :) so many $ for so long, I have forgotten the rates now.
I think they have, Wirraway, Winjeel, Nanchang,Tiger Moth.
