where are you?
and what traffic do you envisage?

Hi
you can buy a new 1RU rack based server (normally under 2.5k) eg dell or ibm with decent ram etc
i can supply rack space in brisbane at $170 +gst per month per RU and includes 50gig of traffic per month and is peered and multihomed with all the majors.
need to know some more specifics on what software you want to run etc etc to be more specific.
feel free to ring me if you want more specific info

What if i didn't want to buy the hardware... or am I better off doing as you suggest and owning my own server and just paying for the bandwidth etc..
At this early stage bit reluctant to shell out for Hardware, but we are thinking long term.... Just a CBA situation at the Moment.

becomes way dearer if you don't own the box.
there is plenty of second hand stuff out there.
shared hosting wont deliver decent bandwidth or big usuage as it is limited by cpu cycles which effectively limits how much you can output.
checkout the likes of webcentral for fully hosted solutions

Thanks Inc..
just called designer and at the start he's gonna host it but what you say about CPU cycles makes sense. I will certainly keep it in mind.
Thanks again.
Ian.
