OK i've been busy and have now 99% finished my new drawers for the Disco.

I have been doing these slowly, as i wanted to do it properly this time, after a few set backs where things like, the ply warping and out of square sheets ment re-doing some things, they are basicly done.

I added a table to these and have the drawers on one side and the fridge and slide with table on the other, the only thing to do now is carpet them and trim the drawer fronts to miss the carpet for a neat fit and make a panel for the front left, this will have a 12v outlet, amp gauge and 240 outlet as well as house the compressor and an outlet and fire extinguisher.

I got the drawer runners off Ebay for $90ea, these are rated to 100kg and are very smooth and easy to operate, i made the fridge slide my self, it's OK for now, but i will change it soon and use the same runners i have on the drawers.

top job baz...you have been busy

is there anyway you can mount the table slide to the fridge slide so that you don't have to clear the table to open the fridge if your forgot to grab a beer

I had thought of it, and now that you have mentioned it, it would probably be a better idea, i am going to change the fridge slide, so i'll do it then.

Alway's good to get other peoples ideas:)

Originally i wasn't going to make them like this, when you look at this setup in other makes of 4B, there didn't seem to be any room above the drawers, but after seeing this setup in another Disco i noticed that there was heaps of room above his drawers, must have something to do with the floor in the D2 that gives the extra room.

I'm happy with the result, should be even better with the panel finished and the carpet on.

Great job Baz, certainly looks the goods. One problem I just encountered after our return, and I'm not sure it's applicable to you ... but ...
I found the screws holding the slide tracks to the ply, as originally made, weren't up to the job in the long haul ..... 3+ years, 2 trips to the top, out west, out bush etc etc.

They basically worked loose in the timber and effectively locked our slide out table in place so we couldn't open it.
Luckily the heavily loaded drawer slides also sat on the base so were more supported.

I had to pull the whole bloody lot out of the fender and partially demolish it to get at the offending mongrels :wallbash::wallbash::wallbash:

Solved the problem by replacing them with countersunk metal threads that went all the way through to nuts and washers the other side. May not be an issue in your case and it may not work + your box is higher and more accessible in any event. But it sure was a problem for moi.

I would say yes, it will happen to me as well as i have timber screws holding mine on, good to know long term issues and i will address this problem before it happens, thanks Rosco for the tip:)

Baz.

The quick fix re the screws is to use parallel thread screws like self tappers instead of wood screws which are tapered and therefore become loose much easier.
Also apply a bit of 'no more nails' to the screw thread before screwing in and you won't have any trouble.

Otherwise, do away with the drawer slides altogether and simply use carpet and a bit of talcum powder - even heavy drawers slide real easy but need to be locked into position for travelling.

OK drawers and new carpet on the storage box, new cig sockets and table https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2007/10/330.jpg

Only thing i need to do is the panel on the left side, i will make this a door so i can access this as a small storage area.

A really good job Baz, dont forget the tools on the rear bumper - if you are like me you'd drive off and wonder where they got to.. :D

What goes up on the left hand side. Have you thought about putting in a small water tank there. I have included a couple of photos from the back of my S2a to show you what I mean. They aren't the best photos but you will see what I mean.

That's a good idea, but i'm trying to keep the weight down in the back and we already have 120ltrs in the camper trailer.

120 ltrs is heaps - no need for any more. At least its there if you come up with any ideas in the future to use the space. :D

Well done Baz great job. Might have missed what you have spent so far for the end product but bet is less than a 1/4 the price of shop one.

The D2 has 4 tiedown points in each corner of the cargo section, i would assume so should the D1.
