G'Day,
Ive got a mate in our club who has a very very sick V8 in his Disco, its making some really bad clunks and bangs, so we we are guessing its stuffed for now until he pulls it down, he has had issues with oil pressure.

He got all upset and wants to sell the Disco to the wreaker and get something else.....I said just get another donk ie good runner and put that in.....he thinks there are no good runners out there and "they " have said the cheapiest thay can get one is for $3k.....I think thats a load of crap....are there good runners out there and how much?

Truth be known he just wants a new 4wd and cant admit it to himself........;)

Its not a updated D1 like mine, its a manual, 3 door but its on lpg and neat......ummm I might buy it myself Love the V8 ;)

urm why not pull it down and rebuild it for the exercise...

3.5s and 3.9s can be had from wrecks in unknown condition fairly cheaply.

If he wants a new car , that is what he wants.
It is always cheaper to fix a motor, than to buy a new car. Hell the stamp duty is usually as much as the fix.
Tell your friend to be honest with himself and admit he wants a new car and is trying to justify it , probably to his wife and friends.
Having said that, it is better to spend 3K on getting a known good engine, than 1.5 K on an unknown.

Tested engines from older cars such as this 3.9V8 long motor are available with warranty from only $1950.00aud with 90,000kms work.

I am going through the same rebuild. I have rung around the various Landy people and the prices are all around the 1900-2200 for a late 90's disco motor as PhilipA has mentioned

Find another V8 for the right price - they're around, just ask...

If the D1 ends up going to the wreckers, I'm interested.

being a 2 door Disco and if he was in NSW and I was his mate I'd convince him that he needs a new car and tell him that wreckers would give him a couple of bucks for it and for a case or two you would do him a kind thing and take it of his hands

Apart from the 4.6 liner probs, rarely will you find a running rover V8 that is beyond a rebuild, they are a tuff little motor.

But dont tell him that

:D:D:D

or on the other hand grab him a copy of a 4x4 is born and watch him get excited if he is a true landy fan

Nah, tell him its cactus, thats what he wants to hear,

then I can have a base for my project;)

he's got quite a few engines there (he buys the odd stacked car and wrecks them)
but he reapirs / rebuilds most of the V8's that come in as "stuffed" as he says 90% of the time it's cheaper
most days you go in there there's at least one V8 in bits

G'day Amshaw :)

if your mate's V8 had ignition problems (leads breaking down) there is a possibility that it has cross-fired at revs, that has a habit of snapping crankshafts:eek: that would give the oil pressure loss, as said by others a good S/hand V8 should be easy to find and just replace it, don't forget that early 3 door Discos will become collectors items in the not to distant future like early Rangie 2 doors are now ;)
