Being such a busy forum, with so many interesting people, I put forward the idea of a directory of expertise.

Such a list could be useful to people with all sorts of enquiries.

To start the ball rolling:

I'm finishing a Masters of Radiography (1 yr to go!) and I'm also a qualified zoologist/marine scientist. Unfortunately, the fish don't pay as well as the health system, hence the necessary re-training in radiation.

Happy to help with anything about health or wildlife...

Environmental engineering - ozone depleation and global warming.

Currently involved with alternative refrigerants - Co2, amonia, hydrocarbons, water, lithium bromide etc.,

The above would be of little or no interest to forum members - or that is what I would guess, but........

..........useful part - all types of refrigeration and air conditioning from auto air to large blast freezers

Interesting thread. Heres my bit:
Honours degree in Marine biology followed by about 7 years in a public aquarium in Melbourne (you know the one) where I did everything from lots and lots of very cold water diving (logged about 15 hours a week), maintenance, husbandry (had ultrasound facilities etc), feeding (hand feeding sharks and fish on scuba for shows), construction of new displays/plumbing, collection of specimens from anywhere in Australia usually followed by ridiculously long road trips that would make any OH+S rep faint. Good fun but too specialised. Threw it in 3 years ago moved to Brissy to start a 5 year degree in vet, still work part time at public aquarium up this way. Nearly 3 years done and 2 to go, cant wait to be done, want to go coastal semi/rural probably large animal with some fishy stuff thrown in.
Whereabouts are you Mittadisco, large or small animal? Got any pearls of wisdom?

I've also taught Cisco Networking certifications at TAFE, so I've taught a range of topics to a variety of students - from Yr8 "Dealing with friendships" :wallbash:to Tesltra Techs configuring routed networks (and everything in between, all in the one day!).

I started out in Computers and seem to have specialised in big databases. Travelled around a lot overseas working when I was younger, mainly UK/Africa. Started a database company. Sold a database company to a huge American conglomerate. Retired for 3 years but got bored.

Now I farm grapes and deer! Still do quite a bit of IT work to pay the bills as farming is all over the place, and I still love databases after 25 years of mucking about with them. Sad hey?

Started out as brake mechanic, worked on railways for a few years on opposite end of the train to Ron & others (was a guard when Westrail still had them), in & out of the mining industry for years, mainly in processing - studied Metallurgy as mature age student. Had own business in heavy haulage for a few years, escorting & driving oversize loads between WA & Qld. Now back in the mining industry - qualified as Metallurgist - work in processing and mine management roles. Spent a few years in Iron Ore jobs up north in WA (Cockatoo Island and Yandi). Was in Whyalla a couple of years ago commissioning the new OBP for Onesteel and Henry Walker Eltin (before they went belly-up). When I finished school I work with car audio. Mostly repair of the electronics and mechanisms but also some installation.
Then worked for NDC Ltd (Telstra's exchange equipment install company) and then Skilled Communications and Bevan's Telecommunications doing the same.
Then decided uni was a good idea and did a Bachelor of Applied Science (Protected Area Management) which wasn't the best idea as far as gaining employment goes.
Worked in family forestry business which was also not a good idea.
Now working in Qld Govt admin and hating every minute of it.
Looking to start a Masters in Geographic Information Science next year. It will be good to get qualifications in a field that is in strong demand.

...I'm also a qualified zoologist/marine scientist. Unfortunately, the fish don't pay as well as the health system, hence the necessary re-training in radiation.

Unfortunately environmental projects don't make money so the pay is crap if you are lucky enough to even get a job.

Environmental engineering - ozone depleation and global warming...The above would be of little or no interest to forum members - or that is what I would guess, but...

Although I drive a V8 Land Rover I'm quite interested in this as it is in line with what I have studied.

I'm a Geophysicist by profession - I process and interpret seismic data for oilfield evaluation, hopefully delineating hydrocarbon targets for drilling. I enjoy field geology when out and about and look forward to seeing more of Australia soon in my new Defender.

In the early 80’s I completed an apprenticeship in YA^ with and additional Diploma in KE*

After a few years I became a complete PITA, something I was very proud of and still practice.

I spent many hours in bars and around campfires, learning off the best PKIAs** there are, and enhancing my skills in the areas of UBS***

In the last few years I did some extra study gained my BSI****

I note with pleasure that there are quite a few with these qualifications on other forums, and even some on this one.

Although I applied these qualifications with enthusiasm to the subject of 4WDing, I soon noticed the forum had other sections such as Camping, and Radio and Electronics, and I have used the same methods above to add value to these forums also.

Due to recent threads submitted by members of AULRO, I have however realized I am actually a CKJ*****. I am considering undertaking extra education to make this less obvious in future contributions to the forum.

It has almost been a year, and I thought this thread deserved a bump.

I worked in the film industry since the late eighties doing a bit of everything including producing, writing, directing, but mostly working on set lifting heavy things.

Then I went to uni.

After a year I'm still waiting on resolution of marks for my masters in scriptwriting, which was a feature length script about Arthur Phillip and the first three weeks of the First Fleet in Botany Bay and Sydney Harbour.

I'm applying now for a PhD in Scriptwriting Theory looking at point of view from the page to the screen.

Cheers
Simon
