Does anyone have Roo Lite's? Are they as good as Light Force?

I have them and I think they are great. there is a tiny difference in light but there is a huge difference in price.

A very good friend of mine sells both... he said (from controlled testing) that Roo lite's are a pretty good light, good in design and light output, they are better value for $$ but still aren't quite as good all round as the Light-force (of similar size). I'd buy them though, and he has nothing at all against them.

I have them and find them pretty good, maybe better than my IPF 900xs's

I run them on my D2, I'm not into big spotties as the normal lights are quite good, plus I ate my carrots when I was younger and I'm not scared of the dark :D
I really only run driving lights for an extra bit of distance plus the car looks mad with them

Light Force are assembled in Australia, right here in Adelaide. Quality versus price, local versus import.

I have them and I would never buy them again!!! They are crap

Not the light out put but the build....after 8 months of owing them it got an expansion crack from the heat and let water in like you wouldn't believe which blew bulbs...you think I could get in contact with anyone for a warranty replacement..nope!

we bought them from a guy at the Victoria show one year..couldn't remember the name of the stand for love nor money..

lesson learnt though...and I'm not the only person that has experienced the cracking on the light casing

I have 4 Roo Lites on my Defender

2 came with my winch bar when I bought it, so I have no idea how old that set are. BUT I always had trouble with them filling with water, it was only when I had a close look the plastic had actually cracked. Why this was I have no idea

In the end I pulled the lenses off and filled the cracks with super glue then sanded it off flat, they don't leak anymore

Here's a pic:

Apart from that they aren't a bad light I guess; although my next set will be Lightforce 240 Blitzs

I've had all of them too over the years.

Now I only have the Hellas - both rally 4000's (with a HID conversion) and a set of Predators - not a lot of difference between the two sets really, especially when considering the price difference - but I wouldn't buy anything else. :D

I am with BMKal, nothing but Hella on my car!

We have RooLites on most of our work vehicles (Land Cruisers). My work vehicle has Rallye 4000s. Enough said.

I have Light Force spotties which replaced a pair of 20 yr old Super Oscars. I reckon the Super Oscars had a better beam but I got tired of replacing lenses due to stone damage. (I know you can get guards but they reduce the light output).

I honestly think Light Force are better. Built right here in Adelaide, the owner lives in Adelaide. Might as well support local. Plus Lightforce has a much better build and mounting system, even if the light output isn't that different.

Drive along a corrugated road for a couple of thousand k's, that will be the true test of a good light vs. a cheap light.

that was one of my pet peeves about the rally 4000's

the adjuster bolts holding the body to the mount had to be replaced with regular bolts that i could do up with a spanner before it would stop rattling loose every 200km on gravel roads........

Have had a few over the years.

Cibie super Oscar - great light, but still the same as 20 years ago. Lacks a bit of output compared to the modern stuff.

IPF's great build quality but overrated output. Some models use 135w filaments and still struggle to match the competition. Had two different models, didn't like the light output of either. The waterproof model may be worth the lower output if that's your thing.

Roolites. Cheaper build, lower quality. Value for money. You get what you pay for.

Lightforce - great lights but expensive, and seem to attract the thieves. ( probably says something ) Your are pretty brave putting a pair of Lightforce HID's on the front your 4WD and leaving it in a dark carpark. Oh and don't forget to let the insurance company know they are on the vehicle. They may refuse the claim if they go missing

Narva - some of the older smaller stuff was pretty nasty, but belted out a good light. ( used mine as a reversing light in the end ) The new 225 Ultima's a great light and good value for money. My current light. I am not as concerned they will get thumped. They have a HID version if you are game. ( haven't tried them ) I notice they also have an interesting offroad racing light. A bit of overkill for the recreational user I would think. The mount looks like it could hang on for a Daka or two.

Have never had Hellas. The 4000's look like a nice build though. Seem to be a few on ebay cheap if you want them.

My Rallye 4000s have been on my Rangie for about 4 years now. I have never touched the adjusting bolts since I first set them up.

Same here. My 4000's are at least 10 years old and have been on three different vehicles. My predators are nearly the same age and have been on two vehicles.

I have never had to re-tighten either set, and I've travelled over a lot of corrugated gravel roads with them. A hell of a lot of truckies that I know also run the 4000's and won't use anything else - have never heard any complaints about the mounting from them either.

I've always found that if they're adjusted and tightened properly when they're first installed on a vehicle, they never move, except maybe for when a roo gives them a bit of a tap. I still carry the original alan key for the adjustment bolts in the console of the Disco - have never used it since I set them up.

The rally 2000's on the other hand ........................ well known for coming loose on corrugated roads. I had one of these in the centre of the bar on my old Pilot Vehicle (HiAce). The only way that I could keep it steady was to brace the top of the light to the top rail of the bar.

Thanks everyone for all your input.

I have had the Rally 4000's since 2001 and just thought that I would put the question out there as I see a small range of preferred lights on the majority of vehicles.

It's good to see the comments are all similar and positive with little criticism. I guess you get what you pay for in most circumstances.

I am going to keep the Hella's as they are still going after all these years, they must be doing something right.

Is it worth changing the regular power consuming (although it really isn't an issue on 4wd's) bulbs or change to HID's?

I run the waterproof 900 XS's, 65w bulbs in them and they are better than the Hella's

on the topic of the cibie's being 20+ years old, how old is the rally 4000 design?

I am running a $230 delivered HID kit in my Rallye 4000s. I am very happy with the light pattern and output.

I crapped out and bought a "premium quality kit of Chinese origin" for $70:D:D

Hope I don't end paying twice:(

And that is why line haul truckers have long used Hella 1503, 1507, Bosch SL5 searchlights. Lights meant for use on cars and light commercials are much less sturdily built than the searchlights and gradually shake to pieces on the front of heavy trucks. Another point is that lights designed for small vehicles rarely have a reflector that is a full parabola. Thet are designed this way to keep the forward projection of the light to an acceptable dimension.

Shouldn't be a problem.

My set of 4000's also has a "premium quality kit of Chinese origin", as do the hi/lo beam headlight conversions in the Disco. Have never had an issue with any of them.
