Now that I found my manual I decided to start reading it and I see differences everywhere, as an 82 model my 3 is not a stage one but its the lastof the 3s, what pollution gear? I have no pollution gear, no charcoal cannister nothing, no extra bits on the carby, no booster, big drums all round big linings, dual wheel cyls on front, 109s have singles, early type cv master cyl, plain solex carby no thrills, she has an early type ignition with an FS key its mounted on a plate on the column with the choke knob, the book denotes a lock actually clamped to column in later fashion with a double sided key, can I find out where she was built through Landrover or something?

So are we saying your average series can be an unknown commodity?, it would be nice to know her placeof birth and her first owner I am sure I am the second or maybe third if she is ex army from Africa which she could be, spose all this just adds to the mystique of the whole thing

I thought a Stage 1 was a V8 or 4BD1 powered Series 3 that had constant 4WD i.e., the LT95 gearbox.

yeah it was rumored mine was a stage one converted to 4 cyl but it was never substantiated, 82 is very late for a 3, I am going to mad with the degreaso tomorrow and hunt for clues and plates, I will remove the firewall plate and pull the chassis details of it, the model I know is a PUP4 if that means anything to anyone

your on track there ron tho the v8 was more common

Due to some loopholes in what was to become the ADR's back then you could retrofit other bits into them to make them work and they would still be legal...

same as Im doing to kermit.

a bit from here , a bit from there and hey something that looks kinda like a series IIaish landrover.

The bueaty of my caris It has a private vehicle import plate from 1992 when she came to Oz from Africa, she was retired in 95, she is probably typical of Landys from Africa that have been repaired with whatever was around, its the most likely reason, it has a mercedes radiator and a mercedes alternator, not my preferred choice of make of parts. I will find the papers I have that document her journey from when she was one year old and started her life in Africa, every service date and where she was done from malawi to Uganda shes been around, even been to singapore, these papers verify my thoughts that her mileageof 80,000 ks is genuine, up until 95 shes all documented, she still has the original airfilter element fitted in Alice springs in 92

All 109s had 11" double leading shoes on the front, the difference is that the 6's (and V8s) had 3" wide shoes, where the 4 cyls had 2.5" shoes. Only the 88s had 10" brakes after the 107" Series 1s.

I am fairly sure she has 3 inch linings, I measured them when I had the cylinders done, I rememberasking about getting exchange shoes and they said it was easier to rebond mine

So you have 3" X 11" front brakes without the booster? Very unusual - I would be having a 6cyl pedal box and boosted brakes first thing if it were mine!

On my 2a 6cyl - I removed the single line master cylinder/booster assembly and fitted the dual line master cylinder and booster from an LH Torana with drum brakes. The 1970's F100 with drum brakes also had the same master cylinder and booster. It turned very average brakes into very good brakes.
