What is the general consenus of opinion on Kenlowe fans in a 110 which is being prepped for Aus?

Currently have one fitted to 110 but someone has told me that the viscus fan is better in hotter climates.

So should I re install the viscus fan for the Aus trip or stick with the Kenlowe?

The climate conditions in Australia vary greatly, its a possibility that those in the south eastern corner of the country will tell you that its fine but I can tell you as some one from the centre and currently in the north west you would be better off with the viscious (not sure of the spelling) fan. I have often considered running both with the electric fan on a switch for slow going extreme conditions.
Im sure you will get many views though.

Does the Kenlowe give more power?

I have been thinking of fitting one but would probably carry the viscous fan if I was travelling in the summer or up north.

Can you fit both or would you have to remove the Kenlowe to refit the original?

Some info here http://www.kenlowe.com/

They have two basic types. One which sits in front of rad and blows air through radiator (No danger of splashing water around engine bay) or one which sits behind rad in the engine bay.

Claim is up to 8.5% fuel saving.

I have the one which sits in front of the rad iator so could still reinstall the original fan IF consensus of opinion is that it would be more beneficial in Australia.

Brendan,
You may not have noticed, but Australia is a VERY large country with extremes of climatic conditions.

Personally, I would refit the viscous fan, but seeing as you haven't said where you plan to travel, and your concern about fuel consumption, probably the best solution is to leave the electric fan in place and bring the viscous fan with you (knowing & having the tools to fit it!)

My series 3 has two thermo fans on the engine side of the radiator plus the fan blade on the motor itself not tested yet in the heat of summer but mine was built for Africa and did 9 years there so there must be something good with running both, u may not have room to run both! I also have a huge mercedes radiator, what about the boys who have done the Canning or Simpson Desert or the Birdsville Track these guys would have the good oil on cooling.

It is my inderstanding that most large trucks are fitted with Kenlowe fans, are very reliable and certainly do the job.

..............but If I was to fit one - I'd still keep the thermo / viscous fan

Hi Bushwander
I knew Aus was big, BUT didnt realise how big until I started looking at some of the tracks in Aus

At the moment I can not tell where I will be travelling as I don't really know but I intend spending about 6 months exploring your country and will certainly going through some of your more extreme climates.

So think I will just refit the viscous fan and also keep the electric one as well

What he said, have both, if by chance the Kenlowe fans should stop working you'll still have the Viscous fan keeping things cool.

What time of the year are you planning to travel??
