G'day!
Does anyone know if Land Rover offer an ABN discount on the Defender, or is such a thing only applicable to commercial utes?
Cheers.

Actually, I think the ABN 'discount' is just a gimmick - when another car company advertised it, I was reading the fine print, and all the car company does is take care of the GST part of the sale. Since you are buying a company car, you get the GST back later on in the year (work related expense). The gimmick was that instead of getting it back later, the car company omits to charge you GST, and with your ABN, they then forward less GST onto the tax office. (Well that is my interpretation anyway..others may have further info). If you want a work vehicle, it would be better to see your accountant and ask about tax offsets, leasing and the like

I digress a little, but...
A van or ute with a carrying capacity of over 1,000kg is deemed a commercial vehicle and is 100% Tax deductible (or so I've been told). So if you're work use is marginal - say 80% and you need to keep a log book, you may be better off getting a Dual Cab Ute and being able to claim 100%. Also depreciation rose from 18.75% PA to around 25% PA, which makes getting a new vehicle and depreciating it a lot more attractive.
Check with your accountant.

Thanks for the replies! I'll have a chat with my accountant when I go in to sign off on my tax return.
