I see in your sig you have the following line:

I didn't know that the medium strip was a "no U turn" zone:angel:

Did you get pinged by the police for doing this? Is it illegal? If so, how much did it cost you?

I sometimes drive up and over raised medium strips to cross where there isn't a break, and was wondering if I may end up getting caught.

Not wishing to be pedantic or Ron, but should it not be 'median' not 'medium'?

Are you serious Spudy ;)

They dont even like you extending turning lanes when you pull up onto the kerb to allow traffic to keep going.

I havnt been fined for it but I have been warned a couple of times.

You are quite right. My only defence is I was swayed by Chosen's spelling:D

Well out here in the country-side you can do pretty much what you feel like!

Didn't really see that driving across a median strip was worthy of an offence, but there you go. That's the trouble with driving a Land Rover that can go straight over things that Commodore drivers have to go around.

I will be more careful where/when I do it in future.

Hmmmm

And we get ****ed off when the public say 4wdrivers are irresponsible...

Perhaps a rethink people...

A median strip is like a double solid white line.

Get the idea....

Oh and for the record, reversing out your driveway to go LEFT is also illegal....

I presume on a lined road you would be correct.

Hes right...

the essence of the rule is that you may only reverse turn to the nearside curb.

which means when you reverse if you turn right hand down to get where your going (other than to correct left hand down moves) then your technically driving against the rules. Ive been cautioned against it when trying to reverse semis and dog trailers into driveways for unloading..

it is illegal to do a u-turn at lights in qld unless there is a sign saying u-turns allowed

By the way , under the standardised Australian Road Rules it is legal to cross painted lines if you are waiting to turn right. ( ie extend the right turn lane).
So I think it is quite legal to go onto a traffic island, as the kerb is technically a "unbroken white line"

Ahh no, then again what would I know ;) - at no time is your vehicle permitted to be on the curb, accross the curb, or a median strip, whether that be an island in the middle of the road or just the space in front of your property. I did this one to death when my local council pinged me for parking half on half off the road once, even though the guy who pulled over and took the pic of my car showed his car parked the same in the shot  This is an Australian Road rule, not a local thing. It also counts for the vehicle being stationary, or in motion. Also the way it was explained to me no part of your vehicle is to overhang the curb/gutter either.

I have been warned by the fuzz for pulling a u'ey on South Road (Adelaide) over the traffic island near Richmond Rd corner. Haven't done it since

To be more specific, you can drive over a dividing strip that is the same level as the road (ie. no raised bump,) to enter or leave the road.

You can also drive over a painted island (same level as road) to enter or leave the road, or to enter a turning lane that begins immediately after the painted island. If you are on the painted island, you must give way to vehicles entering the turning lane from the adjacent lane.
