friday night at about 8.45, a dirty big tree in our front yard fell, split in half. it went across our driveway, took out my optus line, (phone, TV and internet) and slotted itself neatly between the massive palm tree on the other side of the block and the LROC club trailer.

i rang optus straight away and was told someone would be out to fix it within 24 hours. i thought this to be fairly reasonable given the time of day etc.
after spending all saturday cutting the tree up, (with the help of one of my fellow lroc members who lives nearby), tired and cranky, 6.30 came and still no optus. so i rang them.
after trying to get through to this dumb bimbo on the other end of my phone for the best part of 15 minutes, and being driven to swearing at her and threatening to cancel all of our optus accounts, because all she could offer me was that someone would be out on monday, i asked to speak to her superior...i got a "team leader" (WTF?).
he suggested that because it was a bundleed service (phone, internet and tv), the phone was an essential service and therefore could be given a higher priority for repair, so he put me through to the phone dude.
he was all positive and things were looking good, he said he'd put me on the list straight away, but there was no openings on sunday, so the earliest they could get there was monday.
so i was back to square one.
after taking 5 loads of tree to the tip today (5 more to go), i was sitting at home in silence, staring at the spot that used to eminate that warm ,inviting glow, missing all of my favourite programs when i had a brainstorm.
the cable had been pulled and snapped, which meant that there would be a little slack in it. so if i could pull it back onto the verandah, with enough cable, i could make a temporary join in the cable.
i knew that one day my training in electrical trades would be used for good instead of evil.
i now have phone, internet and tv.
look at the expression on my poor garden gnome's face, the tree just missed him.
