Hi

My A/C unit has stopped working and the reason is a plate on the clutch at the front of the compressor has fallen off and surprise surprise it cannot be purchased as a separate item.

Question does anyone have a busted A/C unit from an 02 Disco that I could acquire to use the missing bolt and plate.

Other than that I have to get complete unit which is a bit pricey when all I need is a bit of metal and a bolt:mad:.

That's the compressor clutch plate.
Don't worry go to a aircon place that hsa a workshop. I had my Disco clutch distintergrade and was told if I could source a clutch plate then they would be Mega bucks.
The solution my aircon place had was to grab a second hand toyoto clutch, put it in a lathe, modify it to fit. And they charged me bugger all and works a treat.

Hi Harry
Same advice.
Go to an aircon specialist,a new clutch is needed, doesnt need to be genuine.

Hmm. I picked up a U/S air con compressor out of the bin at KLR Auto on Friday. I was thinking of using it for an air compressor.

I wonder if it has the clutch.

Yea try the air con places.
Ron if you surrender your spare I have one from a SD1 sitting hear that won't get used. I was going to do the same thing but couldn't find room.

Thanks Edd.

I had better go out to the garage and check what I have.

Talking to Richard earlier today he is breaking up his disco so hopefully I can source it from him if not maybe the boys at Narrogin might come into the picture.

We are going down to Harvey the week after next excuse my ignorance but Narrogin is not too far away is it?

We go down on the Friday pulling the caravan and return on Sunday so maybe a detour or drive over on the Saturday morning might work, what do you reckon.

Bugger, I had a look at mine and now I've forgotten the type. I'm pretty sure it was a Sanden (that bit's right) 709

I'll go outside and check - again.

Hi Harry
We are 100ks east of Harvey, its a gravel rd there are a few rough sections in it(permanently rough,HARVEY SHIRE).
Narrogin is 30ks from us.
If you do end up going to Harvey you are welcome to park the van here for the nite, would be good to catch up again.

HI Andy,

Didn't need to go to your guy as I found one in Perth and got drive through service so missed out the chance to catch up.

Have to commend Auto Cool of 238 Lord Street Perth as an excellent place to get A/C repairs.

Fixed in 15 minutes and for much less than it could have been.

Very happy we have a cool car again :p
