Hi all,

Am soon to be in the market for a post 2000 discovery.. I was only considering the td5 model after advice and with regards to fuel economy but have recently seen a few of the V8 petrol models with LPG conversions and was wondering:
How easy is it?
Do they run well on gas and still run ok on petrol?
And does anybody know of an LPG garage in Perth that can do the conversion?

Also is it true that all models post late 1999 are manufactured by BMW?

Any info would be appreciated, cheers.

BMW have never made ANY landrover product, they may have had some design influence but that would be about it, the D2 if fitted with the newer sequential injection should go just as good as petrol, Walker on here had a D2 with lpg conversion.

Hi Purdster,

I have an earlier model than yours but have duel fuel. Mine runs well on lpg and the install onoly cost me about $400 although I did most of it myself and then had it checked and certigied by a licenced gas installer.

With the rebate, you will get most of it back on a new system installed, although it depends on who is doing the work for you and which system you get.

I have an IMPCO system. With your Disco being newer than mine ( a '93 ), you'll probably get a better system and get more k's per liter than mine but it is definitely worthwhile IMHO. I'm also sure that you'll be able to tune it better to run on both fuels.

I have lived in Fremantle, but it's some time ago so I can't help you with who to go to.

Around '99, I do think that BMW was involved at that point too.

Cheers,

Pete'

I had my LPG fitted by gas power in Perth about 5 months ago. Mine is a D1 not a D2, and with the twin tanks that replace the fuel tank, the conversion alone cost $3800. Because yours is a D2 you will need LPG injection which will probably be about $700-800 more but on the upside you will only use around 10-15% more LPG than petrol versus 20% plus with the older systems. You will also not lose any power when using LPG as opposed to around 10% for the standard setup. Considering you will get $3000 back from the gov it makes the conversion quite appealing. Around Perth it will cost you less to run your dual fuel V8 than a TD5.
