I've long since thought celebs abusing drugs need to be hit harder than anyone else, not allowed to get away with it as so often seems the case. How the hell can you convince children of the dangers when their heroes are popping everything to fall of the chemists production line....

If you are silly enough to do it and get sprung then you can be smart and make sure you dont bend over in the shower in prison or you will get what you deserve for entertaining the idea of drug in the first place, celebrity or not, too bad, no get out of jail free cards for you.

I pity him, but at the end of the day he made the choice.

He was given an out in that he was able to go to a rehab facility and receive the kind of support that most parents of drug affected kids can only dream about. But it appears he has chosen to ignore that out.

IMHO the weegirls FC and many others need to drop this stuff about "he's very brave" and "it's a disease".

If he was 'brave' he would have refused drugs in the first place.

Again IMO, drugs are not a disease. They are a choice. Cancer is a disease. You don't see people in the corner of pubs exchanging cash for a few lines of bowel cancer.

They strip Orders of Australia off people for being convicted of drug offences, it should be the same for the Brownlow.

If you can't do the time don't do the crime!

No sympathy for Ben from me, but my heart goes out to his family. I don’t care if he is a Fremantle or Vic based player. Attack the issue not the person. Don’t be so narrow-minded to think that this is an Eagles or WA problem. This insidious drug is worldwide.

I've seen first hand what drug use by 1 person can do to family and friends. Children all raised by loving caring parents. Offered the world in work and education opportunities, yet for some reason 1 of the kids gets mixed up in this stuff. Destroy themselves, their immediate and in some cases extended family.

The upsetting thing about all this is he can't see what he's doing wrong. Yet his family will be in turmoil trying to figure out where they went wrong and what they could do different.

If he was a Rock star or a politician, would it get the same media exposure?? (Daniel Johns/Peter Garrett)

I saw a stat some time in the past that listed the politicians that had fraud, drug, assault, and numerous other charges against them. So-called learned well-educated men and women are not immune to the perils that affect the rest of us. So why is it that we are so critical of sportstars.

I feel he should face the music now and the Eagles should delist him. However the same rules and blood calls that apply to our sportsmen because they are “Roll models “ Should be applied to other community leaders-roll models.

My rant………..feel free to tear it apart. Just remember that we all have family, friends, sons and daughters, perhaps even some forum members that may come under the spell of this cr@p in the future. How would you like it handled then?

Hate the stuff, never tried it never will. Rarely drink. Yet I lay awake at night thinking about the future for my 3 kids, and hoping that when (not if) they get offered this sort of temptation they have the strength to turn away.
RJH.

Totally agree drugs are a horrible thing and tear families apart.

However I am glad they caught him. If it is proven that he was driving under the influence of drugs I am glad that it is his family that is suffering and not the family of some poor bugger driving the other way.

Celebrity or not he deserves to do time for this. No different to drink driving in my book.

He had an M Series Mercedes for a while, dunno what happened to that. That was the one he abandoned at a booze bus road block with his girl and some mates in the car, ran across an oval and swam the Swan River turned up soaking wet at a restuarant wanting to phone his lawyer. The "disease" must have been hitting him pretty hard that night.
