I know that somewhere in device drivers, amoungst the USB controllers there SHOULD be something about an ENHANCED USB controller.

not mine,, in fact mine used to say STANDARD,,
untill I uninstalled it, on the premise that windows XP
DOES have the enhanced controller in all the service packs.

now when I ask it to update the driver, it fails to find it,, and no option available to go to microsoft to download the enhanced one.

(which explains why its always telling me I have a low speed usb hub:angel:)

any ideas?

I'd do a restore back to the time you still had the driver.

What mother board do you have?

it is just a driver update that is part of sp2

one way to trigger it is delete all the usb ports and i mean them all and let it find everything again, suprising what it fixes some times... tell it to find drivers of the net if it cant find them..

sony cameras are excellent at blowing xp usb drivers to hell and back... doesnt occur often but when it does it can be fun...

I'm guessing that you are doing this because when you plug something in it tells you it can go faster if you use usb2? I've got a mobo of similar age, usb ports on the back panel are only usb1 but if i use the headers on the board itself i get usb2 maybe you have the same problem!

This was fixed by reinstalling SP2.
