Cup weekend trip ideas

Thinking about hooking up my parents caravan and going away for cup weekend, looking for ideas that are no more than 1- 1 1/2 hrs drive from Mel near water and kid friendly for a 4 1/2 yo and a 7 month old ? Will be taking the monday off so it will be for 3-4 days. Parents have a house at Phillip Island so not down gipsland way.

Missus wants to go to Bright and my parents went there couple of months ago.

Nice place, i'll be there the weekend after for the Bright Hot Rod Run.
Great big playground for the kids, nice river and swimming holes.

we use to go up there when i was a kid :D
some great times up there for sure

Ovens River was great for tubing back in them days
my old man would drop us off at Bright and we'd float down to Porepunka total trip 4hrs

best part was the nudiest camp not far from RushInn caravan park;)we would all know when to float very quietly:o

And the winner is..........Bright, now should on put my muds on just in case ? Anyone towed a lightweight van in a tdi with 32's on ?

towed a camper up there with 35 pedes on:)
but it was a di not a tdi, and it was 6.5 litres not 2.5;)

Plenty of nice places along the Murray ...just out of Cobram .. ...Backhouse Beach is nice ...but slightly more the 1.5 hours more like 3 hours.

or the Otways ... Blanket Bay etc but gets crowded.

But Bright sounds nice. ...

We used to have 400 acres on the murray and we went to the otways about 4 years ago on Ausday and havent been to Bright since 1983 :o.

Bright, well not very this past weekend, got hit with all this ****** rain and was pretty much confined to the caravan with the kids for 2 whole days, didnt stop raining from Friday night till Sunday morning :(.

Pity, we spent the week in the pool, a little 4 wheeling, and a bit of boozing. Weather was great
