View Full Version : can a Disco out-handle an XR6?

Had my hire car upgraded to an XR6 the other day, and was rather amazed to find it had considerably more body roll than my ACE-equipped Disco... Having said that, after two days in an XR6, it's definitely time to go the power upgrade on the TD5...

In my book nope, and I should know, I have both :D. Must admit I have never experienced body roll in the XR6 and I have had it close to the limit,

LOL. You must have a tight Disco.

I had a D2 with ACE and also have an XR6T. Yes, I agree with you, I have always thought the suspension on the XR6 is a bit soft and it definitely rolls a bit.

I has an Asian mate in my Ace D2 over the weekend and his one for these boy racer type with electronic suspension gizmo from 5 zegan thing I think his suspension is worth as much as his car but he is a pro drifter he was amazed to how well the D2 handled

pitty it probibly wont handle the same after the suspension mods :D:D:D

As to the original question, can a Disco outhandle an XR6? Well that all depends on who's driving them.

anyone who thinks a 4wd can out handle a falcodore... is kidding themselves..

A standard xr6 has the same suspension as a normal falcon, the xr8/t has the upgraded.

I am willing to hire a track, you bring your d2/d3 etc etc and I will bring a xr6, a stock commadore, and if you beat me, I will give you 10k

Else you pay the 10k..

I drive a XR6 Ute with ladders on the roof and 500kg or more in the back and it will still outhandle any "4wd" i have ever taken on...
"4wd" does not include Porsche Cayenne and Lambo 4wd's...........

nope the suspesion test track on base....

handling is a figurative term... and he only said track...

its a track its on the map.... theres one branch in particular I want to see him get an XR6 onto let alone across, the ofsset mogouls.

ok your still on I know just the track and I'll be nice its not the suspension track on base....

motor cross tracks are race tracks too...

and incase you get any ideas about specifying a specially constructed concrete or black top track I happen to know where there are a couple of mogal tracks done in concrete with black top on them for testing purposes....

I still reckon the deefers going to get you so long as Im picking the tracks....

tell you what you pick the track and I'll pick the race style and see how you go.

I think Cameron may have been referring to a circuit, like Oran Park or similar...:D:D:D

But, on a wet day, (and the Stig at the wheel) a supercharged V8 Range Rover Sport, may just do an XR6, on a greasy tired Oran Park....

I dont think a current real 4wd diesel would do it, but then again, they're not for tarmac racing, haven't seen any XR6s cross the Simpson...

yes I know what he was reffering to but I was being obtuse

"I know what you ment but that wasnt what you said....." is something that comes to mind....

I can be a bit of a bugger like that if i feel like being cantankerous...

besides youd only have to get it close on one corner and pull a pit move.... and just think of all the shortcuts you can take over the ripple strips and traps with the 4x to get closer thats gotta count as better handling if you can straighten the cichanes that much more than the ford..

we'll have to do it on the same day that we race the diesel and v8 counties.

:):) you might as well tow a mower on the back and cut the grass at the same time :)

A RR sport is alot different to a Disco / Defender ... I would be scared with someone came with a Porka ... I would have to pay the 10k then :)

hmm talking about cuttin ze grass time to hit the sack :)

Just pulling the chain a bit there, Dave, we all know any Land Rover can run rings around anything else:D

Now where's that Top Gear vid of the BMW X5 being done over by a Series 1?:twisted::twisted:

At low speed the disco with Ace is great but over 130 kmh around corners the BFG Mud terrains feel like they want to fold under, ha ha

Well Im no boy racer, and maybe I don't push hard enough nor want to. But whilst my D3 handles bloody well for a vehicle of its size, going through the windy bits, give me the missus's XR6 any day. It handles like a gem and would beat the D3 through a windy strip hands down, even with the V8 screaming. Straight line..........bit different..........I know.........we've checked

I've driven a D3 and no doubt it's a nice ride. But a D2 with ACE and road tyres is not that far behind a D3 in the handling department as some of you D3 owners would want to admit.;)

then of course there is the issue that most of the poseurs in sportscars don't actually know how to drive them - hence most of the time on windy roads the Disco is right up their clacker...

Of course, I wasn't seriously suggesting that a D2 can out-handle an XR6, which actually started to make more sense the harder it was pushed...but as I implied before, around town it just felt like a taxi...

However, noone's particularly impressed if you out-handle them in an XR6...they get a bit of a shock however when you out-handle them in a 2 tonne 4WD... so much for 4WDs being inherently unstable/dangerous...

No really Stevo if you have a drive of a D2 with ACE and road tyres you would be surprised how well you can hammer them through corners. But as I said after driving a D3 it's a better car.

when its wet and greasy (or winter full stop) I'l take the rangie everytime.

Given a nice dry day with warm sticky roads..............i'l take you ute....

The best thing about the rangie is that im about 600% less likely to loose my license in that than the rangie (even with the 4.6):wasntme:
