A United States Navy Admiral was attending a naval conference that included Admirals from the U.S. , English, Canadian, Australian and French Navies. At a cocktail reception, he found himself standing with a large group of officers that included personnel from most of the countries.
Everyone was chatting away in English as they sipped their drinks but a French admiral suddenly complained that, whereas Europeans learn many languages, Americans learn only English. He then asked "Why is it that we always have to speak English in these conferences rather than speaking French?"
Without hesitating, the American Admiral replied "Maybe it's because the Brits, Canadians, Aussies and Americans arranged it so you wouldn't have to speak German."

I guess the french will be pretty fed up with those sort of jokes by now!
so heres a couple that were in a book I read recently (war reporting for cowards, I think it was called)
How do you defend Paris?
nobody knows, it's never been tried!
Why do the french have so many tree lined bulevards?
cause the Germans like to march in the shade! (I love that one)

The Americans have states of alert known as "defence configurations", Defcons 1, 2, 3, & 4. The French have run, hide, surrender, collaborate.

My sister in law is french and these sort of jokes were reasonably regular until she exploded in an unintelligable outburst
Still sneek one in every now and again though.

I don't think so, but it's always revolting when they change captains!
