Ford are using one in their current falcons I was told but I havnt seen for my self.
Seems they run a shifter cable, it wouldnt be too hard to set up a shifter of pretty much any sort.

Try a B&M mega shifter, or a B&M Quickclick for that true pro street look mr Clarke..:D:D:D

Your right Slunnie
the ZF in my disco is a rebuild out of a V8 BMW (series 7 I think) - a bit stronger but still breakable.
Shift is via cable so you can fit what ever you like.

Clarkie,
For the new Land Rovers with the six speed,
as Mcrovers says, Ford, along with Jaguar, GM, BWM, MB, Bentley, Rolls Royce and many others :D
If you mean the older 4 speed, ZF4HP22EH 4-speed auto, it appeared in the BMW's in the 80's and 90's.
I found this bit that may interest you: You can fit a ZF4HP22 gearbox to the Defender, but ensure that you select an early non-electronically controlled box, or else you could face many long hours figuring out how to mate up the EFi system with the gearbox ECU. These non-electronic units were fitted to the Range Rover and Discovery up until around 1994(?). One warning if you intend to fit a ZF4HP22 gearbox - the fluid flow changes direction when 4th gear lockup occurs - therefore you should not install a secondary filter into the oil cooler piping! Fitting a transmission fluid temperature sensor should be ok though.
Cheers

Not unless your talking brand spankers;) Don't know about BRAND new, but if they're still using 4 speed it'll be a 4L60E

the acclaim box I was servicing had a ZF manual.....(as in book of words not gearbox you fools) but unless I see the stamp on the side of it that says what type of box it is Im guessing. I honestly recon as far as grey boxes of evil go Id have trouble picking a trimatic from the latest ZF by visual alone.
But if your going for the non electronic one you could get tricky and just use an electric motor with a selector control on it to pick the gears and then you could go so far as having push button range selection on the auto.

What year acclaim? it'll be some form of T700, no relative of ZF

Any cable shifter will do steve, just means making a bracket to hold the cable, and shift linkage on the box, to get the ratio right, so just find something you like..that's cable operated and make it fit, I do it a bit with silly conversion;)

Maserati BiTurbo uses the 4HP22!
Poor buggers. The tranny would be disposable behind that engine. :D I'd be looking for one out of the lowest powered motor because it'd probably be in the best condition.

Maserati Quattroporte uses the ZF but they have played with it to rev to 7200rpm, also in sport mode it does a heel toe down through the gears.
It uses the same housing as the BMW X5 4.7ltr. The Maserati also puts out 400hp.

Don't ZF supply a lot of F1 teams with paddle shift boxes?
The MAN we are doing up at the moment has a ZF box, behind the 9 ltr diesel.
But, it is a 24 volt controlled 2 speeder. Just an Industrial switch on the dashboard. Go backwards, go forwards.:p
Sorry, can't be any more help than that.:( There is a tarp flapping, and distracting me somewhat.:(
