You don't say what your use is - but see this if you want to use it away from town.

Had erricsons when gsm first came out, and since have had a succession of nokias, been a great phone, only problem they are getting smaller and harder to read,
if the service is good ,the phone in my opinion will be fine.

can't comment on bluetooth as all my in car sets have been hard wired.

I've always had a Sony Ericsson, well Ericsson to start with. I've always preferred them to Nokias.

I've got a W300 at the moment (which is the walkman version of the Z530) and it's very good to my mind.

If you are in a rural area and not using a car kit you are restricted to a few handsets with the stronger inbuilt antenna.Look at a telstra add/website,they have the ones marked with a tick.
Recently got a LG TU550,actually getting better coverage on nextg than the nokia cdma it replaced.SMS is heaps quicker.

Ive used both sony and nokia, but honestly pick the sony in preference, it may seem a little convoluted to use the first time, but the battery life more than makes up for it.

Cheers!

I to have held off waiting for some decent Hand sets the only one that excited me was the Palm 750 but did not get the reception Blue Tick.

Nokia are about to release a Next G N95 which gets the bluetick.

Has a full car kit available GPS this should be worth the wait.

Cheers

ill add my 2c

there all ****...

samsungs have alot of hardware errors
nokia have a lot of software errors
and I was under the impression the new sony-erricson range was good but the last few days I have herd otherwise.
What about motorola? they are just as bad if not worse.

Seems there is no such thing as a good phone these days.

note: all my opinions come from managing a mobile phone fleet of 18. Then ontop of that the rest of the familys woes (another 7 phones).

I can't speak for every phone out there but whenever I have gotten anything other than a Nokia I have always regretted it.

Although the old Ericssons were good. These were the old angular brick models. Before they went into the smaller flip phones in about 2002ish.

I recently got a Nokia 6120 NextG phone for free from Telstra so I'll see how it goes.

We have motorola V3x - several of them - at the right price - courtesy of a telstra deal, they work okay and the buttons are big.

But the ring tones are not exactly loud...

Hard wired kits - that is such a sore point with me. As I have not seen the need to change my RRc in 20+ years my car has now had 7 different car kits. The last Nokia GSM (Kit 6) I was at pains to go for a generic type kit ProTeq (now BlueAnt) that would remain with just a change of the cradle for the handset. How wrong was I - kit 7 was my first Sony Ericsson 710i and if you leave the phone in the cradle and turn off the ignition the phone mutes itself but no one can tell me how to un-mute the phone in the cradle (not the same as muting in normal modes). So I have to turn it off and remove the battery and re-start. Now it has a charge optimisation problem and remains muted any time it is in the cradle.

So I started using the 3G Sony Ericsson 610i Vodafone sent me 5 months ago - accessories are no longer available even though it was a new model when I got it. The problem with this phone is that it turns it self off every time it thinks about it, put it on charge turns off, end a call it turns itself off, leave it on the desk in front of you it turns it self off, start dialing it turns itself off. AARRGGGHHH!!!!:mad::mad:

I have had a few different brands over the years.

I had the Sony Ericcson in for service more than it was working - I will NEVER have another of their phones.

I have been using the Nokia CDMA's for the last couple of years and they seem good.

I am about to start using a Samsung so I will see how that goes. I don't want to start using it until the car kit turns up though as it is so much easier.

We had a look around at four differant shops, and now Im just plain confussed

But I did narrow it down a bit, to either a;

Samsung A412 http://shop.telstra.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay'storeId=10001&catalogId=11651&productId=62553&langId=-1

Samsung A711 (I liked the red anodised looking one) http://shop.telstra.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/TelstraProductConfigurator?catalogId=11651&storeId=10001&langId=-1&productType=Mobile+Handset&categoryId=&selBus=Personal&offerType=NO&partNumber=TITAN-XSAMA711BURG&straightThru=Y&selectedPlan=$0_3G_$40PP_offering

LG TU550 in Black http://shop.telstra.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay'storeId=10001&catalogId=11651&productId=61569&langId=-1

Had a look at a Nokia 6120 but its much the same as I have already (Looking for a change) & soon to come Telstra 158 heavy duty shock proof unit........But its a brick.

Hi Guys,

check out the Nokia N95 about to be release for Next G
it comes with the Telstra Blue Tick rural reception recommendation.

The current 6120 does not and from all accounts is ordinary.

I am going to wait for the N95 and get a full car kit with my 7.5db external Ariel.

Cheers

I had a look around for a Nokia N95 and found this http://www.nseries.com/index.html#l=products,n95

A bit too flash for me , but each to there own ;)

Im just after a basic phone , dont really need all the crap that they come with now, but bluetooth will be handy and maybe the mp3 player.......

I found a review of the Nokia N95 HERE (http://www.cnet.com.au/mobilephones/phones/0,239025953,339271384,00.htm).

It looks a bit flash for me with the GPS and so on built in. It's pricey too.

As to whether I need a phone or not.... well If I didn't provide one I'd be stuck with a work one. So, I choose to provide my own and write it off on tax. There would be nothing worse than having to carry two phones I reckon. My pants fall down as it is :p

As to needing a remote area capable one.. well that's just for me. When I'm that remote work won't call as there is nothing I could do to help anyway. I have between 2 and 3 English cars and you never know when or where you could break down :p

G'day All, I dont hide at home, and if your job requires you to have instant comms well thats part of your job!, I dont have to have that instant comms when I'm not at work, and I still stand by original comment 'I dont want one nor need one' cheers Dennis:wasntme:
PS. To me they keep changing the technology that fast why bother with it, they are worse than computers, new today defunct tomorrow!
