Prices for Series 1 bits

I have found a bloke who may be keen to part with some Series 1 bits and pieces. He is thinking of it and will let me know how much he wants. But - to help out, how much should I expect to pay for:

- gearbox in good working order
- original axels
- poles for the rear tarp of my 107.

Any help would be appreciated as I know very little about prices for these bits. :D

Series 1 parts are very difficult to price, particularly second hand. You have to look at how rare the bits are and how good they are.

Gearbox - except for the early free wheel gearbox, the Series 1 gearbox is fully interchangeable with the Series 2/2a (although there were differences through 2a production), so unless you want a box to match the chassis number there is not any particular value to them - lots of 2/2a boxes about.

Original axles - presumably you mean the whole assembly. Again, most of the bits are interchangeable with 2/2a and even 3 except for 80" fronts. As rust is not generally a problem in this country, the only real value is the bits different from 2/2a, which means the half shafts, particularly the rear ones (these very occasionally break, but more often the bearings fail and as it is not a field job to change the bearings, a pair of spares with new bearings pressed on can be worth having), which are quite hard to find, I believe. You might want to pay as much as $1-200 just to have the spares.

Poles for the rear tarp on the 107 are probably scarcer than hens teeth, although not impossible to make (the problem would be finding samples to work from) - grab them. Four Wheel Drives list the second hand price for a set for series 2/3 at $550 second hand - and they don't list the ones for the ute, let alone those for Series 1. So this is an indicative price.
