G'day all,

Well yesterday my wife and I celebrated our 4th wedding anniversary.

We still like to give gifts to each other and make a special occasion of it - for example last night we stayed at Jupiters Casino and saw the show there - Zingara. Fantastic show I can thoroughly recommend and not just because there was more scantily clad female bottoms than one can poke a stick at :D At one stage they had 5 motorbikes going around a small closed sphere, it was amazing! Not to mention some of the other acts, indescribable! Well worth the show :)

Anyway this year the traditional gift was "fruit and flowers" so I got my wife some roses and a lovely set of white-gold earings with emeralds cut in a "pear" shape...

My wife took a different tact and bought a modern gift which was "an appliance"... so I scored a 2.5HP air compressor :D:D:D

OK it's a supercheap special but it's more than I had previously (nothing). Didn't come with tools though so I need to pick some up - does anyone have any recommendations for the home not-so-handyman? I've seen a few threads where people generally recommended against using the super cheap tools but didn't mind the compressors.. so was wondering what peoples recommendations were on where to get a set of semi-decent air-compressor tools?

Look in Cash converter stores etc.
You can buy a decent trade brand air tool for the price of a new cheapie.
I got a rattle gun and air ratchet secondhand.
For new, grab an air die grinder cheapie, handy cheap tool!!!! Air duster too!!!

Repco or someone like was running a line called Proton, there rattle gun was decent bit of gear fairly bombproof, the air ratchets were rubbish though, its the old story, you get what you pay for, if you buy a 2 buck spanner use it once and lose it you dont really care, buy a 30 buck snap on spanner and use it once and lose it, thats a different story!

Good stuff Glenn. :)

I've found the supercheap ones aren't the best.. but are maybe ok for a once off job.

Queensland Trade tools aren't too bad. They have reasonably priced stuff that seems to be ok in quality.

Ive gotten some supercrap gear as presents from those who know me but arent really all that savvy on the best places to buy quality stuff or who cant afford to buy the top shelf stuff but want to show appreciation AND the fact that they pay attention when they ask the "Is there anything youd like/need in return for your help?"

so far Ive got a rattle gun thats made 5 years + of use in a pair of air ratchets that have cleared 5 and do more work than the rattler.

That said Ive also busted a couple but the guys there were good on the replacement even tho I didnt have the receipt and didnt know which shop I got them at as I still had the original box they swapped em over for me.

Keep em clean, keep em oiled and I see no reason any of the supercheap air tools shouldnt do the job for you.

The air tools I have at home and in the order of most use to least are.

3/8 air ratchet
1/2 inch rattler
1/2 inch air ratchet
air chisel ( wheel bearing shells in+ out in less than 1 minute per hub Ty Very much)
Air duster
Air die grinder
Tyre inflator
Air drill
Air nibbler
air nailer
air stapler

and all of them are supercheap ones....... all of them are originals of at least 3 years age.

I also have a couple of paint guns and a recently aquired air bleeder.

If its your first set of tools I would strongly advise the super cheap style ones till you work out what your doing with them, you might find that you get one invisaging you'll use it on a regular basis only to find you dont.
