Hi There guys and gurls

Today we pick another 2a as a big mechano set (thanks ACE!!), however we are a little stumped with the VIN / Engine number searching, I tried googling and calVIN but came up with very little info.

We are trying to see if the engine matches the chassis so any help would be most appreciated, not for any particular reason apart from the fact its nice to have a little family history on any new pet!!

Chassis No: 24307030b
Engine No: 151020974

Cheers

That engine number does not have enough digits - it looks like a part number. The engine number should (2.25 engine) be on the sloping surface just in front of and below the exhaust manifold, and adjoining the timing cover running from top to bottom of the surface, and should have eight digits plus almost certainly a letter suffix.

Ok, after looking under layers and layers of what can only be described as "crud", we found a new number.....

The engine comes from a 1960 109" petrol so almost certainly NOT the original engine. Although essentially the same and could have been an exchange exchange engine done sometime during the life of the vehicle. This was a common practice, look for a reconditioners ID plate on the block - "Replacement Parts Co NSW" (Repco) certainly did hold Land Rover engines on an exchange basis in the 1960's.
