Sorry Matt I don't have an idea about the cost, however they are around at many of the wreckers usually quite cheap, the later Roy Sim kits were very good, they are a welded bell-housing adapter rather than the cast aluminium of many of the kits. Also get the engine mounts.
In any of the four cylinder vehicles, you have to move the radiator forward and shorten up the grill (radiator support) panel, which means that you also have to cut the rear top corner of the front cross member, then weld in a piece of angle to fill the space. Not necessary in the 6 cyl 109".
The Holden clutch is a problem in Land Rovers, if you don't get a Sim kit, you can make up the clutch by using a Borg & Beck pressure plate housing for a TE20 Ferguson tractor and fitting the parts from a Series 2/2a Borg & Beck pressure plate (the type with the three fingers) you use the standard land Rover pressure plate.
The cam on a 186 is better than the cam for the 202 or 173 because or the torque curve.
Try to get a sump from a HT holden with the bulge in the centre so that you still have oil on steep decents.
You will have overheating problems unless you also fit a decent sized oil cooler.

I know this is not the question you wanted answered but if you are considering converting a landy to a holden engine, I would think twice about it. Simply in a standard vehicle the landrover engine is better suited to the car - the holden engine screams, only has margininally higher power and about the same fuel - the landy engine pulls better where it counts and on the road it runs better.
If you are looking at doing a conversion I would be asking a lot of questions as to the pros and cons.

When I took the 186 (with conversion kit) out of my S2A, I couldn't sell it for love or money. I eventually gave it to a local wrecker FOR FREE. :(
Place an advertisment in MARKETS and you should get a truck load of the little suckers. :)

I disagree, I had two, one 186 and a 202 and both were much better than the Land Rover sixes I had, cheaper and easier to fix, didn't leak, always reliable and similar fuel economy unless you used the extra power. If I drove the type of driving I do now I would like higher gearing but at the time it was ok. I didn't have overheating problems when I fitted a V8 Holden fan.

well i have two converted series 3 109's
one a holden 202 with 3.5 diffs..original gearbox(3rd one) lol
one an efi 4.1 falcon six with auto and marks adaptor..
standard diffs and it chases lots of modern 4x4s on and off road,:D
the gearbox is the killer in the series landys if you want more grunt.
it will not handle any stress, esp in reverse
plus
and i cant believe how much fun it is to drive a series auto

The S3 box had a great and strong layshaft but was let down by the reverse. The ratio was higher than the 1st gear so you had to put more grunt to back out of where you were, this put the reverse idler shaft out the side of the box.
The later S3 cases with the lattice ribs in the casting over the the reverse gear (rear RHS) were better than the early ones, but the S2a Suffix D+ gearboxes were the better gearboxes in spite of the non-synchro 1st and 2nd.

Here's a good starting point for the conversion mate.
