i have just received this link to a petition for another daylight saving trial, at least jo isn't around to object to this one.
if you are interested then click on the link and follow the directions.
i for one am tired of waking at 4.30 am when the sun shines in the window and then wasting time before i go to work,
and how much electricity would the daylight saving time save if we all turned off our lights and tele an hour earlier,
here's the link:
http://www.parliament.qld.gov.au/view/EPetitions_qld/currentEPetition.aspx?PetNum+931
then click on 931-07 daylight saving trial

Harry, even up here it is now daylight at about 5:30, I don't start work till 7:00.
If I had the extra hour in the afternoon I would use it and it is going to get lighter earlier for a while yet.

Cheers,
Paul:twobeers:

Whilts most people are for it, I hate the idea. I moved to Queensland 13 years ago and one thing I did like was the fact there's no daylight savings.

Try and work outside in QLD during summer, especially brickies, chippies, etc.. who get fried in the summer heat and like me wouldn't be a big fan of daylight saving time (DST) in QLD. I don't technically work outdoors and luckily get plenty of shade, but no air con and plenty of heat it's a dead set PIA having to start work later because there's no daylight and I loose an hour each day for that. People will say well it work's out the same and it does, but by 2PM regardless of DST or normal time I've had a gutful of the 30 plus degree heat that is regular in Jan/Feb.

I'm a minority and it's gonna happen anyway, alright for the office workers but get them out in the heat for a day they might change there minds very quicky.

Oh Boooo Hoooo :p, hmm reminds me of a 6 letter word........what is that word, oh yeah....CHOICE,

P.S. Only reason would want daylight savings is that companies etc that I deal with in other states can be closed when I am still working.

You're right, it is a choice but the people who make these decisions are not out there getting there hands dirty with no touch of reality. I've said this once and say it again, it will happen weather I like it or not :(

By the way, not all of us have the luxury of choice in our professions. I was lucky enough to be given my opputunity and it's not my dream job but it pays well (could be better). I'm not whinging that we work in crap conditions just voicing my concerns that DST would affect my abilities to get my work done that's all. Comment like that are down right snobbish and arrogant

Trav, you're going to get fried in 30+ degree heat anyway, whether you get up an hour earlier or not. The sun doesn't work by a clock, you merely shift your working day to a "cooler" time in the morning. I just hate going to work and the sun is already high in the sky - rather go work "earlier" and knock off an hour earlier, gives me more time to go fishing or doing something useful before it gets dark. Plus will be heaps better for the overall economy of the state, we do a fair bit of trade with the other states as well i suppose?
And yes i have worked in states with daylight savings - i love it

Trav Hmm I voted for daylight savings, does that meant I have no touch with reality or likely the other thousands of people who have also voted for daylight savings.

Also though off topic, if you have 2 legs, 2 arms and a brain and you live in a country like Australia, you have a smorgasboard of options when it comes to professions. It is absolutley a choice as to what you do for a living.........and if you don't like it and continue to.........that is a choice as well. Not saying you, but in over 20yrs either working for "the man" or myself, I have come across people who complain about what they do. My response is either shut the **** up and get on with it, or find something you really want to do...it is all choice.

As for the bolded part I hope you weren't aiming that at me....bit hard to tell :D

Yes I know that, but by lunchtime on some days it's gets pretty hard to keep going past 2PM. With DLS time, we technically loose an hour in the morning that we can put to a more productive means that's all.

Didn't mean to turn this into a ****ing contest, get out there and come work with me for a day in the height of summer, you'll soon change your mind

I don't get into ****ing contests with mates, so all good. Moreso you presented one side of an argument and I have come from a different perspective. Either/ or is not a real biggy for me, am used to it, though definately affects some from both sides of the fence.

Also I know what it is like to work in the height of summer, try sitting in a home office, no aircon with sun streaming right into your face, so I kinda know what you are on about from that point,

I enjoy what I do actually, it's interetsing, challenging, good workout (who needs the gym :D) and you can tell people to get stuffed and not get the sack for it. It also sorts out the bludgers from the hard workers too.

Ity just seems that the opinions of people in the construction industry get thrown aside and that the 'white collar' throng are considerd more important. That was really the aim of the snobbery remark and not intentionally directed at you :)

I used to be a baker (trade qualified) and that's why I left the trade, had a guful of the night shift and weekends, along with public holidays and so forth. Plus getting screwed on the pay wasn't ideal and putting up with stoners and some of the most unsavoury people that I've ever come across is enough to make a career change. Plus I'm used to working in heat nearly all year round in a bakery it gets up to 50 degrees and that was at around 3AM in Jan :eek::eek: so I was well hardened in that area when I started plastering.

At the end of the day and after all the arguing, I don't want it and that's all there is to it. I'm a minority but I like being different

Have a good one.

Ditto...Self Employed, no boss, timecard or aircon :2up::tease:, your point being?? Damn right its a choice and yes it is boo hooing if you complain about your choice...no matter what you do? My bum hurts, my fingers sore, my boss is a meany, my keyboard is out of whack etc etc :D. My mates are from al walks of life and most would hardly put myself in the category of needing a manicure , and happy to have a beer with anyone. Good enough for ya
