D2 sill protectors

Would like to fab up some sill protectors/rock sliders next, what is the best way of bolting to the vehicle? Do i need to bolt to the chassis or is the sill itself strong enough to fix to?
Any pics would be a great help.

Mine bolt through the sill, but are supported by plate under the sill and crush tubes within the sill.
